Take e.g. the 6166 road through Cetina river canyon instad of D8, the Adriatic Coastal Road

Visit Mt Biokovo Nature Park, entrance above Podgora, and visit all old villages under Biokovo - Bast, Veliko Brdo, old Tucepi and Podgoram that were deserted following 1960s earthquake

For villages which are in the direction of Omis (Bast, Veliko Brdo) take the "Magistrala" (Adriatic Coastal Road) towards Omis, you will see the signs on the right side.

For old Tucepi and Podgora, take the 512:

After several hundred meters, you will see on the left side the sign for Kotisina botanical garden )listed here at the TA among Things to do)

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2844765,17.0380148,730m/data=!3m1!1e3

Then you will come to Old Tucepi (with one of the best restaurants & with a splendid view - the Konoba Opacak tavern, also listed at the TA)

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2710322,17.0717181,290m/data=!3m1!1e3

Then you come to this intersection:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2614029,17.0770636,265m/data=!3m1!1e3

To the left goes the narrower road to old Podgora:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2466364,17.0829927,461m/data=!3m1!1e3

which at the end joins Adriatic Coastal Road (D8) in new Podgora. If you go straight you would come to the entrance to Mt Biokovo Nature park:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.257706,17.0809871,347m/data=!3m1!1e3

The road to Sv Jure peak (1736 m - 2nd highest in Croatia, from the top in clear weather Monte Gargano peak in Italy can be seen) is 36 km long.

If you continue by 512 a few hundred meter, after short tunnel you have to a beautiful view point:

Welcome!

After you climb the serpentines in Mt Biokovo Nature Park, there is the Vrata Biokova (Gates of Biokovo) restaurant with excellent lamb on a spin. Behind it, there is a WW II monument with sillhouetes of all islands carved in marble - using it you can actually recognise which islands you can see.

(notice that many pics are mine :-)

At this place, when driving towards the Sv. Jure (St. George) peak, you have a road leading few hundred meters to a mountaneer home "Vosac" (now closed, I think it's being reconstructed):

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2924751,17.0825882,375m/data=!3m1!1e3

From there you can climb to Vosac peak with the old TV transmitter, from which you have a splendid view over Makarska:

it's actually the initial picture here - https://makarska-info.hr/en (check What to see at this page too)
