Can i just ask this, what are the cheap things to buy in Croatia? Would like to buy few stuffs when leaving to give to my friends and family. Thanks.
Most stuff is imported so not authentic in that sense. I do have a small obsession of collecting little wooden or ceramic ships with the name of the place on the sail with an accompanying artistic representation, of Hvar, Korcula, Vis, Rovinj, Pula etc etc.. I have quite a large fleet now on one shelf. A Croatian armada. Which also draws some mickey taking comments but I think they look cute and they don't take up much space. They are not much to buy and can be found in most tourist shops or markets.
Interested in food? Buy jars of honey (chestnut, sage, lavender, acacia, dark "fruits of the forest"), spice blend packets, pumpkinseed or olive oil (also comes in small jars)...
Lavender sachets and small books are also great souvenirs.
Bajadera chocolate box! :D
But, also depends from which part of Croatia.
Heading to Zagreb :D
Kraš has a huge selection of chocs and bikkies, available in most supermarkets, and cheap.
Zvecevo dark chocolate is at the same level, if not better, than Lindt's. The one with orange too
Another famous Croatian product is the Maraschino cherry liquor by Maraska factory from Zadar - THE only original Maraschino in the world.
Once it was produced by the Luxardo family which, after fascist Italy lost Zadar, emigrated to Italy. But the factory remained - and still produces it
The big Dolac market in Zagreb is worth visiting even if you only buy some fruit for snacks, but they have hand- crafted wooden toys that I thought were cute, I don’t particularly like obvious “souvenirs” with the place names on esp as a gift if I’ve not been to that place!
Maraschino you can find in practically every supermarket in Croatia :-)
