itinerary suggestions and queries

Dear All,

I would be visiting singapore from 27th June to 2nd July. i am staying at holiday inn clarke quay from 27th June to 1st July and then MBS on 1st July for 1 night. I would reach Singapore at 9.25am SGT on 27th and fly back on 2nd July 8.05pm SGT.

Below is my tentative itinerary and i would greatly appreciate your opinion if this looks good or if i should make changes, add any attractions etc..

Day 1 (Wednesday):

Since i am reaching early, go to hotel first, keep my luggage safe and head to little India, explore, have lunch and come back to hotel. rest for some time and do singapore flyer in the evening. from flyer, come back towards merlion area, dine somewhere at clarke quay and end day 1.

it's my wife's birthday this day, so i do not intend to make this day hectic and so i chose places nearby to clarke quay. I guess i read somewhere that view from flyer and MBS would pretty much be same. Is this true ? If so, i can drop this attraction and instead go to some nice place for dinner to celebrate birtday.

Day 2 (Thursday):

USS till evening. After hectic day at USS, should there be any other attraction added on this day ? i need to plan out this evening. first thoughts are to visit china town. end this day with dinner either at china town or clarke quay itself.

Question on attraction:

1) is express ticket for USS worth on a weekday, or it would be comparatively less crowded on weekday? are the Singapore school holidays over by this day ?

2) Should i buy the play 5 (because do not think i need more attractions here) & USS combo online ? i am anyways planning to visit sentosa on consecutive days ?

Day 3 (Friday):

Sentosa again for other attractions in the morning. Evening plan is to visit some clubs at clarke quay.

Day 4 (Saturday):

Bugis street & Orchard Road in the morning. Night Safari in the evening.

Day 5 (Sunday):

Checkout from holiday inn and checkin to MBS. Enjoy Infiniti pool, visit MBS Casino. Evening got to GBTB.

- considering check-in time at MBS is 3.00pm, do i have enough time to cover all three ?

- is there anything else in MBS, apart from infiniti and casino that i should check ? restos & pubs at MBS are too expensive for my liking :P

Day 6 (Monday): I will have to go out for breakfast as its not included in my stay at MBS, and initial thoughts are to go to MTR at Little India (i guess by 6th day i would crave for indian food).

come back and check out. my flight is at 8pm so i guess even if i reach by 5.pm, it should be sufficient time to clear airport formalities ? what should i do from about 12.00 to 5.00 ?

Thanking you all in advance for all the assistance.

If you had posted before booking the hotels, I would have advised you to check into MBS on your wife's birthday. It would make the day more special.

The view from the Flyer is similar to MBS Sky Park. Maybe do the 40-min river cruise instead (night time will be very romantic) or watch Spectra light show at Marina Bay (8pm/9pm) from Merlion Park or Event Plaza or from the river boat (different views). https:/…light-and-sound-show.html

Orchard Road shops open late at 10am and Bugis Street at 11am. I think it is better to visit Gardens By The Bay on Day 4 morning as the 2 domes take 3h and the outdoor gardens another 1-2h (start with the outdoor gardens while it is cool and the domes haven't opened yet then proceed to the climate-controlled domes). Evening time won't be sufficient time to cover the Gardens and you can't see very well other than the Super Trees and Garden Rhapsody (7.45pm/8.45pm) since the lighting is dim.

MBS checkout time is 11am unless you can get an slight extension. Hotel guests get free entry to the Ce La Vie. I guess you can go in to take a look even if you don't wish to consume anything, Other facilities: hot tubs and the gym. You can visit the casino anytime, not necessarily while you are staying there, so maybe before you check in or after you check out. Pls note: You need to show your original passport.

You are visiting USS after the local school holidays and I guess the school vacations may not have started yet for overseas visitors so it may be possible to do without the Express Passes. You may wish to check out the situation on the day. Do note that not all attractions participate in the Sentosa Play Pass. It is better to see what you are inteested in first and then see if the pass is good value for you.

I see that you are missing Gardens by The Bay which you should visit if you can fit it into your schedule.

Theres a large Foodcourt in MBS which has lots of different food stalls and is not expensive, used to be next to the skating rink but don't think the skating rink is there anymore, someone else here might be able to tell you which floor its on. Also theres a very nice foodcourt called Makansutra or Gluttons corner on the Esplanade near the Merlion, open air with lovely views of MBS at night, some good food there too.

- i too would have certainly loved to be at MBS on wife's birthday on day 1, however there was some price difference between these two checkin dates and i am staying at MBS mainly for Infiniti pool experience. My wife wants me to spend the extra money on her gift and not on the room so that's how i ended up selecting dates for these hotels :P

- thanks for suggestions on day 1. River cruise and/or Spectra show makes sense.

- On day 4, are you suggesting i should do GBTB in morning, then bugis & orchard in afternoon and River Safari in the evening ? also, i do not intend to visit GBTB again so is the rhapsody worth the miss ?

- Thanks for the information on carrying passport at casino. i am now thinking may be i should do it post MBS checkout on day 6. I will be able to kill the time before i leave for airport and also by that time i will only be left with the buffer SGD's on my hand and so 0 risk of putting my trip in jeopardy due to gambling :P

Does MBS allow to keep luggage somewhere safe post check out ?

i had actually planed for gardens by the bay on 5th day, but am reconsidering now based on suggestions. Thanks for highlighting. :)

thanks for suggestions on Makansutra or Gluttons. will certainly check them out.

in general otherwise does this itinerary sounds decent and less hectic ?

It is a short walk from MBS to GBTB so I don't think it is a hardship to make a second visit to GBTB just for Garden Rhapsody. Whether it is worth it, I cannot say as opinion is subjective but certainly, it is unique to Singapore.

Yes, they do.

Your itinerary is doable, although I find it inefficient in parts. Namely, the repetitive trips to Clarke Quay & Little India. Also, it's several minutes' walk to Fort Canning MRT (DTL Line), Clarke Quay MRT (NEL line) & the various bus stops (No. 51, 143, 174, 186 outside Central Square; No. 51, 64, 123, 186 outside River Place Condo; No. 32, 54, 195 outside Liang Court). They're not very far, but aren't exactly at the doorstep either for repeated traveling back & forth.

Suggested revised itinerary:

Jun 27/Wed - arrival, Merlion Park, hotel check-in, GBTB, Helix Bridge, Flyer, light show.

Jun 28/Thu - Sentosa, Clarke Quay, River Cruise.

Jun 29/Fri - USS (until 10pm).

Jun 30/Sat - Bugis, Little India, rest, Night Safari.

Jul 01/Sun - hotel transfer, MBS, light show.

Jul 02/Mon - Botanic Gardens, Orchard, departure.

Day 1 - Focus on GBTB & Marina Bay only. Drop off your luggage, stroll downriver to Merlion Park. You'll pass Clarke Quay & Boat Quay along the way (both will be deserted in the morning). The Merlion visit itself won't take long, so you can either enjoy the waterfront past Collyer Quay to The Promontory & then have lunch at Lau Pa Sat (quicker return trip back via MRT); or sightsee the Colonial District (Cavenagh Bridge, Empress Place, Parliament Place, Esplanade Park, Padang) & have lunch at Nalan's in City Hall (quicker return trip back bia MRT). Use streetdirectory.com to better locate these places. Post-check in & rest, take the DTL train at Fort Canning MRT to Bayfront MRT & spend the rest of the day & night in the area (GBTB, Flyer, Helix Bridge, light shows, birthday dinner).

Day 2 - Do Sentosa on this day. Wings of Time (7.40pm or 8.40pm) is almost unavoidable if you buy the Day Pass bundled offer. Or you can head to Vivocity (huge nearby mall) or Clarke Quay for the nightlife & River Cruise.

Day 3 - Do USS on this day since they'll remain open for 2 more hours (till 10pm) than for Day 2. Check the crowd size before deciding whether to buy express passes on the spot. When it becomes suffocating, get a handstamp to exit temporarily & visit the rest of the RWS integrated resort (which has a casino too), then return after 5pm when the park is less congested. The free Crane Dance (8pm) is also near the USS entrance.

Day 4 - Waterloo Street (Chinese temple, Indian temple, flower sellers, fortune tellers, vegetarian eateries, hawker centre, Roman Catholic churches, Jewish synagogue; there are also Protestant churches & Muslim mosques elsewhere in Bugis) will become lively before the Bugis shops & malls open. Kampong Glam is also nearby, although I'll rather visit Little India next or prior instead. The afternoon rest break will also provide time to pack away shopping purchases from Mustafa. Whatever you do, don't overstretch yourself or the Night Safari will be very fatiguing.

Day 5 - Focus on MBS only before & after check-in. There's so much to do already (Casino, ArtScience Museum, The Shoppes, Digital Light Canvas, sampan ride, Ce La Vi, light show). Flaunt your privilege, man! But skip the "plebian" Skypark since you'll have access to the Infinity Pool & the Skybar.

Day 6 - Botanic Gardens, then Orchard Road after 11am when the malls are fully open.
