Public Transport - Easy To Use ?

Hi all.

Myself and GF will be arriving in Singapore on Monday.

We're planning to travel around by public transport all the time as well as walking.

What is the procedure for using both MRT and busses?

Is there a pass we need to buy or can we pay cash for busses ?

If there's a pass, how do we buy it and how much is it ?

Thanks

Adam

You can get the Ezlink card at the MRT passenger service centre at Changi Airport. Non refundable card cost of $5.

How many days are you staying in Singapore?

3 days in total but we have transfers included to and from the airport.

We're staying at Elizabeth hotel near Orchard Rd if that helps for where else I can get a pass .

Cheers

Get the EZlink card (each person needs their own) at any MRT station ticket office. SGD$12 ($5 is the non-refundable card fee and it’s loaded with $7 credit to use). The card can be topped up with SGD$10 as needed at the ticket machines in stations. You can walk down to Orchard station or Somerset MRT station from your hotel and get the cards. Have a look on Google maps to see the distance you will be walking.

Here is a link to the MRT network map. Somerset and Orchard stations are on the red coloured line-

The bus system is very good too. You just enter the front of the bus and tap your EZlink card on the card reader, then when you exit the bus (the doors in the middle of the bus) you tap the card on the reader near the door when you are getting ready to get off.

There are bus stops all along Orchard road so you could walk down to there from your hotel and try the bus, maybe from near Paragon Shopping Centre. Lots of bus routes pass by there.

Maybe mix MRT with some taxi rides as after a long hot days sightseeing it’s often easier to jump in a taxi back to your hotel.

I echo the above. The EZ card is definitely the way to go. So easy, even I can use it.

Some great info here people, many Thanks.

How much would say a journey from orchard road to China town costs by bus?

I expect our longest journey by public transport will be our hotel to Universal Studios next Wednesday .... Any ideas how much that would cost?

Cheers

The maximum fare is less than s$2 for payment by EzLink. Most trips are must less than that.

If you are not carrying huge lugguage, you may want to catch the MRT once you arrive Changi Airport, the station is just below T2 (look out for signs board). USe google and it will show you where to swtich line. Even if you make a mistake , no worries. Just get out of the train, and at the platform you can look at the track direction, no need to tap and leave the station . More info is available at the station main area (again without tapping the card so that save you money if mistake is made)

Spore MRT from Changi Airport do not charge extra like other countries city to airport (Sin$1.75 if you use EZlink card)

You may use this link to check routes and prices : https://mrt.sg/fare

If you are going to the Zoo, save money by taking the MRT (as early as you can to one of the stn listed in Zoo website and hop onto the bus. Journey may be long but one get to see real spore)

If you are rushing for time take the taxi, it will cost you a bit but not that exhorbitant

10. Re: Public Transport - Easy To Use ?

So just to confirm, the most expensive public transport trip is less than 2 SGD ?

That's just over £1 per journey, that's super cheap!!

So presumably the day I go to USS from Orchard Road will be approx 4 SGD by public transport ?

Thanks

Adam
