Impossible to answer what "is better to stay" for you as you haven't even told us what your interests are and what you are looking for in a holiday. Do you like city life or more beach oriented holiday?

Both offer a lot, but if I had to choose one, for me I would choose El Nido. Not sure about you though!

Puerto Princesa is now a city with a population of 280,000 inhabitants and offers accommodation to suit all budgets as well as many good restaurants and several shopping malls. From the city you can take day trips to Sabang Underground River, Nagtabon Beach, Honda Bay Island Hopping, Dolphin and whale watching, firefly watching at night and city tours. Unfortunately the beaches in town are not that great.

EL Nido is in a bit of a mess now as 32 establishments that are too close to the beach are being demolished and a further 70 are being investigated as they have been constructed on timberland and may also be demolished. However the island hopping s good in El Nido and there are some good restaurants too. Be aware that sometimes there are brownouts and you may not be able to withdraw money from the ATMs.

If you want crowded and expensive - go to El Nido.

If you want less crowded and less expensive - go to Port Barton.

Port Barton would be the place to go, exactly 150 kms from Puerto Princesa by shuttle van. Safe and sandy beach for swimming and quite a few restaurants. Island hopping, snorkeling tours, hike to waterfall.
