Get Dong via ATM or Exchange USD

I've read through all the threads but I haven't seen this specific question. Should I take out Dong via ATM or go to a gold shop and exchange USD to Dong? I've read ATM fees vary which makes me think exchanging USD to dong at a gold shop might be better?

Which ever suits you best. ATM fees are generally around $2-5. So going to the gold shop to exchange money would get you a little bit more. But some people don't want to carry a lot of cash around. So it's a personal preference. I've used both. Sometimes I ran out of money at night, and exchanging dollars to VND was not possible, so I used the ATM.

You should have both cash and ATM, just for back up. You don't want to be in a situation without an alternative.

Dont buy USD . If your home currency is easily exchangeable, just take that. Dont rely on just one source of funds. Take 1-2 cards and cash, make sure your bank knows where you are going.

Last time we were there we used both, we took cash to exchange and made sure they were fresh clean notes. We also used ATMs and found the fees to be minimal
