A little bit of god news during these COVID times

I just thought that it was time to post a little bit of god news during these COVID times – This is a newspaper article about a Scottish family who have just successfully completed a trek to EBC and Gokyo during the current lockdown.

https://www.scotsman.com/news/people/aberdeen-family-lockdown-nepal-make-it-mount-everest-base-camp-after-four-months-mountains-2919675?fbclid=IwAR28H8WE8Pl6SNHbpMilM9GC5bI5DgiWXNZMsG9oOWKZVyHDVis5HvOsHeA

I hope that you all enjoy reading this rare piece of good news during these turbulent times.

Best Wishes

Rob

Please permit my attempt at levity: they’re bound to be properly acclimatized.

(And yes, I know that they spent the lion’s share of their time in or near Lukla, at an altitude of only 3,000 meters.)

Walking uphill with two kids, aged four and nine, also helps keep days short.

With 4 months on trek, this must be both the best aclimitised as well as longest EBC Trek on record 😆

From quickly reading the article, it seems to me that with the close, prolonged and very welcoming contact with the locals, they had a far better all round experience than 99% of trekkers.

The Nepali 'life' side of things usually gets almost completely overlooked. I appreciate that at peak season, with the Goretex hordes pouring through, real contact (eg proper conversations) are very difficult. The family seem to have been very fortunate, and certainly had much more of an adventure - and even the weather looks to have been good, from the photos.

Post 7: thanks for the first video link (only looked at that one). The air above Ktm looks far clearer, and there are far, far fewer vehicles on the roads. I have been able to see parts of the Langtang range in the winter from Ktm hotel roof tops, but nothing like the video. As well as pollution, dust is usually a major problem in Ktm, much of it presumably from poor quality or unmade roads.

The video does clearly show how unattractive most of modern Ktm is - a complete jumble of unplanned and uncoordinated developments, a result of the free for all.

I assume that many people have moved out of Ktm, back to their villages - the guides I trek with (got an email from the older one yesterday) are still in their village.

It has been a real pleasure following Clan Wander’s trek in these strange COVID times when we are unable to go on our own Nepal adventures https://www.facebook.com/clanwander/ and to be able to contribute in a small way – So I would like to thank Julie and her family for sharing their experiences with us all :-)

I am sure that you will all agree.

Best Wishes

Heh Karl ....that is very pleasant way to spend 7.37. That it is a locally produced piece adds richness.

The fading light on the peaks at around the 5 min mark is so familiar that one seems to momentarily be there.
