Island peak

I am organising a trip for myself to ebc and island peak. I would like to complete ebc solo and arrive at chukkung myself. From there I would to use a guide and also the use of there equipment needed to summit island peak crampons ropes ice axe etc. has any 1 had any experience with this route and is it possible to arrange a guide and equipment in Kathmandu and meet them at chukkung on a set date?

You should contact agencies from the TAAN list online and ask them. There are some previous posts on this.

Hi spud

No experience of this but it is possible to arrange to meet the climbing guide at Chhukung - people have reported doing this, good luck finding post (awful search facility). Agencies will, no doubt, try and sell you the full trekking and Island Peak package. Maybe someone who has doen this will recommend an agency, otherwise it's a pin-sticking job on the 1000+ TAAN list.

Good luck

Yes, I've met people who have done that so it's definitely possible but of course you still have to pay for a guide and porter, to carry the equipment, to come from Kathmandu. Maybe your best bet is to negotiate a discount with a group climb and arrange to meet them in Chukung or just bring your own equipment, make your way to Imja Tse, and offer to join those already there to join them for a fee.

I do not agree that it is necessary a guide and a porter. If you are experienced enought, you can do it yourself, hiring the gear in chukhung but, for sure, you need to contact a TAAN agency to get the permit to climb. For the proter, almost all gear is in Dingboche/chukhung/base camp.

Anyway, if you want a guide, the TAAN agency will provide you one.

I have a very good recomendation, but I do not know if I can recomed this by the forum rules, if you want, send me a private message and I will tell you. I did all the arrangements with them and everything was perfect. If you go throw Dingboche is easier but you can meet them in chukhung as well if you go throw Kogma La. Take care with the Lobuche Glacier, the path is very dificult to find it (there are thousands, and a lot of them finish in a big lake inside the glacier).
