Question about Trekking in the Off Season

I have been following a number of threads about the advantages of trekking in the winter off season, with the advantages being fewer crowds and clear skies. The disadvantage of colder weather seems partially offset by bright sun, at least during the day. I was wondering if there were other disadvantages. Specifically, I was wondering if enough tea houses were closed in the off season to be problematic. Is there a chance of and independent trekker finding himself stranded with no place to stay, especially in remote areas?. Let's assume we are discussing tea house treks in the Everest region, including the approach treks from Jiri, Phaplu, and/or Tumlingtar. Thanks in advance.

Only the top part (no real villages) of Khumbu trek might have some closed lodges, everywhere else more or less business as usual, as the approach trails pass through areas of permanent inhabitation. EBC trek is now so popular that you can find accommodation the year around.
