Finalish Morocco Itinerary

We’ve refined our itinerary for our month in Morocco, based on helpful input from @TimCullis and some more research from the forums and guidebooks. We’ve dropped the desert visit and have reduced the number of 1 nighters to permit us to do a bit more local exploring. I’m really excited about the trip, particularly before and after the Dades valley. I’m not sure about the Dades valley and area. I dropped Todra Gorge as a stay, although we might take a quick peak, because it seemed more touristy. I’m excited about Skoura, but not so sure about staying and hiking in the Dades valley proper or the valley of roses. I’d love any input on the merits of Dades versus rose valleys for scenery, access to nice villages and hiking. Also would appreciate any tips on special things to do and places to see and stay on the broader trip. We love walking, hiking, cycling, arts and culture, traditional villages and people. Thank you! Here’s our itinerary:

4 nights in Marrakech; 2 nights in Essaouira; 3 nights in Tafraoute; 1 night Taroudant; 2 nights Tamnougalt (Kasbah Maktob sounds amazing!); 2 nights somewhere up the Dades valley; 2 nights Skoura; 1 night Demnate; 3 nights in Ait Bougemez valley; 1 night Marrakech to return car; train to Fez and 3 nights there; 2 nights Chefchaouen; 1 night Tetouan then fly to Spain.

" I dropped Todra Gorge as a stay"

Have to say overnighting in the pinch of the Todhra gorge is my happy place. I do this as often as I can.

It is amazing there in the evening once the tour buses are long gone , and in the morning when the rising sun starts to fill the gorge like a river of flowing glowing it is an amazing sight. I would skip the Dades gorge every time in exchange for the Todhra gorge.

Not sure why you back track to Marrakech to then go to Fes?

Hi. We are backtracking to Marrakech to drop off the rental car. I presume that that’s required, or is it acceptable and economical to drop it at a different destination? Thanks!

With many car rental places , they will send an employee to pick up the car at a different city at YOUR expense.

Last time I rented in Marrakech and returned in Fes , I think it was 120 to 150 Euro.

This fee covers the fuel, days rental, hotel and food for the driver and the drivers pay.
