10 Day Itinerary Help

Travelling to Morocco in late April and have a rough itinerary below with a couple of parts I’d like some help/advice with to fine tune it. Open to any suggestions where it could be improved.

Sun 27th - Arrive Marrakech evening

Mon 28th - Fly Marrakech to Fes Afternoon

Tues 29th - Fes

We’d 30th - Fes

Thurs 1st May - Sahara Tour

Frid 2nd - Sahara Tour

Sat 3rd - Sahara to Marrakech

Sun 4th - Marrakech

Mon 5th - Marrakech

Tues 6th - Marrakech

Wed 7th - Home

Could also fly to Fes on day one with a 4 hour connection in MAK. Normally would go ahead and do that but have heard of 2.5 wait times to clear immigration.. Is this still the case recently making it too tight or would we have time to clear immigration and then make the domestic flight to Fes?

Is 3D2N Sahara tour better going from Fes or Marrakech? Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with a particular operator?

Possible spare time in Fes/Marrakech to accommodate a day trip elsewhere - recommendations welcome.

You won't be going to The Great Sahara Desert.

MAK is an airport code for South Sudan, it would be quite an adventure. And no, that isn't in the Sahara either.

Why not fly into one airport and leave from another? Fly into Marrakech and out of Fes, for example, or vice versa. Then you don't waste time and money. Unfortunately you won't be going to the Sahara but the dunes are very impressive. The day you save from not having to fly to Fes could be added to your trip to the dunes.

@KiloZulu: "Clearly this is supposed to be RAK

Clearly you didn't bother to read the READ ME FIRST sticky thread at the top of the forum which states,

"PLEASE DON'T USE ABBREVIATIONS: Spell Moroccan place names in full as many actual abbreviations of place names are not the obvious choice, for example, ‘Chef’ is NOT the accepted abbreviation of Chefchaouen. This especially goes for airport codes—contributors cannot be expected to know the codes for airports all over the world, so questions asking about, for example, flights from MSY to RBA are meaningless and there is no way people are going to bother to look these codes up."

@DodgyD yeah I did look at that also but the way flights work out to where I’m from the flights just worked out best going in and out of Marrakech so that’s why I need to work the trip round that, I appreciate the suggestion though.

I am happy with the duration of a 3D/2N trip to the sand dunes and think that covers most parts we’d like to see, just wondering if best to do it Marrakesh - Fes or vice versa.

You realize you will have one all day , from just after breakfast until well after dark drive, plus a 2nd

drive that will be most of the day in a transport. On top of this you will be lucky to see these big dunes for more than 2 hours in daylight. Lot of travel to get 2 hours to see the dunes in daylight. Adding a day to this would lessen your long drives and add time in the dunes..

For flying , remember you need to get the the airport at least 2 hours before your flight (3 would be safer) and it will take you an hour or 2 to get out of the airport after you land. SO this could easily be 6 plus hours travel time. This means taking the train is also a viable option.

I would personally go with Fes to Marrakech , if they are doing a straight run from Fes to Merzuga (all day drive) , so you get there before sunset. This way you could break the return trip to Marrakech in half. Maybe stay in the Todhra gorge area or Dades gorge area.
