A couple of different questions re RTH

On our previous trip to Maui we did the RTH and loved it, but we only got as far as the black sand beach before we turned back, so as not to have to make the drive in the dark. This time, we'd like to actually get to Hana town, O'heo Gulch, and Lindbergh's grave. From reading various threads here, I've seen suggestions to drive straight through without making any stops and working your way backward, which sounds like a good idea. However, when we were discussing this both of us seemed to remember that the majority of places to pull over to see various things were on the right side of the road when you're heading towards Hana. If our memory is correct, for those of you who have driven straight through and made your sightseeing stops on the way back, how did you handle the parking? We don't want to block what we know is already a very narrow road.

Also, this may sound silly, but I can't say I've seen it mentioned anywhere-- Is there a list somewhere of areas with restroom facilities along the route? I remember we stopped at one early in the drive, Garden of Eden had facilities, and then again at the state park where the black sand beach is, but as it is a long drive and we're planning on going further this time, it would be good to know. :)

The Eucalyptus Trees and the Three Bears water falls are easier to see on the way to Hana, because of that parking situation. And if there is a place to pull over, I would do that on the way to Hana. Both stops don't take very long at all, just needing a couple of minutes to take some pictures.

It was my fourth time doing that drive, before I ever got to take a picture of the Three Bears Falls! There was never any room on the three previous trips!

Good job J0an!! This list is old but for the most part, the areas haven't changed all that much!!

You are right, the pull offs for most areas to stop will be on the opposite side of the road if you go to Lindbergh's grave first and work yourself back. You will either have to skip them or make a U turn!!

Thanks JOan!

We actually did get to see the Three Bears falls the last time, though we didn't get to stop for a photo of the Eucalyptus trees. And thanks so much for the rest stop list! A definite keeper! :)

Thanks, fishdiva. That's what we figured but it's been 10 years since we've been so I thought it best to ask to make sure we remembered correctly.

Slix, I got those stops from my Menehune map! Menehune has three maps, one for west Maui, one for the south, and one for all of Maui, including the RTH. I have all three of them now. You will be able to pick them up for free while on Maui. I found mine in Kihei, at the Kalama Village.

I especially like the one for the RTH, as they have the MM markers, and everything marked on it. And it is in bigger letters, so it is easier for me to read. And the label for washrooms is very prominent!!
