sunrise tour guides - what is their cost

What is a reasonable cost to expect to pay for a sunrise tour guide?

I am assuming that Tikal has registered guides/agencies that we must use/go through?

Do the guides meet us at our hotel (jungle lodge) and then take us into the park and sticks with us till the park is officially open to all?

Are we expected to tip the guides on top of the fee, if so, what is standard percentage to tip?

Is this is local currency or US dollars (I want to be prepared and not offend anyone).

Thanks

Guides often recommend on this forum: Roxy Ortiz and Marlon Diaz (Gem Trips). I don't know how much they charge but you can contact them.

You can also book a sunrise tour through one of the hotels at the park. Those guides can be hit or miss. I would ask all three hotels about the cost and length of the tour.

Yes, the guide would meet you at your hotel and stay with you for the duration of the tour.

You have to buy Tikal tickets at a Banrural bank. This thread has all the info (it is long but scroll down for updates to the original post):

I recently booked a sunrise tour with Marlon of GEM Trips and I HIGHLY recommend you book with him. It costs $50USD, which must be booked and prepaid online with a credit card. It might take a couple of days for them to confirm, so don't panic if you don't hear back from them immediately. My friends and I were picked up at Jungle Lodge and Marlon escorted us back there after the tour was over. What I loved about the tour was that: #1 GEM Trips keeps the groups small and does not exceed five people. #2 Marlon was very upfront and said that his guide style was that you ask questions vs. him constantly spouting off facts. My friends and I preferred it that way because it allowed us to actually talk to each other without feeling rude about interrupting him. Marlon knew when to allow for comfortable silence and spoke up when there was something of particular importance. #3 The tour lasted almost five hours and I felt we more than got our money's worth. #4 Tipping is ALWAYS discretionary. My friends and I were so incredibly happy with the tour that we gave Marlon a tip.
