First Time in Washington DC!

My husband and I will be traveling to Washington DC for our very first time in August 2018. Can anyone provide suggestions on must sees/must dos/must eats? We're coming primarily for the museums, but would love suggestions on anything/everywhere else. Activity wise, we're open to anything. We're in our early 30s, so suggestions for fun, vibrant, and up and coming neighborhoods all the way to beautiful locations with a view are highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Start by reading some guidebooks, some of the many trip reports here, looking at si.edu. Washington Post going out guide and dining guides. There are 10,000 "must sees" depending on your own interests. You have plenty of time to start doing research and narrowing it down.

Off the top my head, the multiple museums of the smithsonian, museum of art, museum of natural history, the White House, the Capitol building, the monuments and memorials (Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, WWII, Korean), and Arlington cemetery with the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown. You can go see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution at the National Archives or go to Ford’s theatre (you can’t go into “The Box”) and visit the house across the street where Lincoln died.

Meetup.com has a lot of free Nixon, Womens History, Black history and other themes Dc tours. They also have nightlife and social tours like scavenger hunts.

Thingstododc.com is also a good source of overpriced but cool once in a lifetime activities like Embassy parties and Margarita cruises which may coincide with your stay

You need to figure out which museums you are interested in seeing.

Sip a cocktail at the Doubletree Skydome. Good view of DC and the Pentagon.

Potomac River cruises are nice too.

I think you'd like the newly built up Waterfront area, lots of good restaurants and concerts there.

That would be The Wharf, if you’re looking for it.

"That would be the Wharf" if you want a generic zone and fancy generic restaurants that have nothing to do with the real city. Nothing wrong with that - just understand what it is. Playland.
