Romantic Getaway Away From Washington DC City?

Going to Washington DC for the first time and spending 4 days in the city to do all the usual tourist things but then looking to get our somewhere nice to chill out, relax and have some nice food in a nice resort/boutique hotel but no idea where to go. Any ideas? Please help.

Will most likely have a car and willing to drive a few hours. Will then drive back to Washington to fly home.

Am I right in thinking Chesapeake Bay direction would be nice?! I just don’t want to head somewhere in the middle of nowhere and then not have any restaurants/shops to go to etc.

St MIcheals has a few romantic resorts. If you are willing to drive further, Cove Haven, in the poconos (3-4hours) is a couple resort. Though it’s far, they have included shows, water sports, games and activities and rooms where there are champagne class hot tubs. They have a few other properties in that area.

Well, it can get really rural along both sides of the Chesapeake Bay really quick. Annapolis is very nice place to visit on the west side of the bay with its own historic downtown area.

Or the town of Chesapeake Beach which is much smaller.

If you cross the bay bridge you could do couple of days in Cambridge or Chestertown.

Going west you have wine country in Loudoun County or really throughout large parts of Virginia and Maryland. Base yourself somewhere west of Leesburg VA and have a ball.

Once you leave the cities it gets rural pretty quickly and restaurants and shops are less plentiful. Rehoboth Beach is more built up and has some romantic hotels. I like Avenue Inn.

The other two that I recommended are stand alone resorts which are self encompassing without anything else around. They have lots of activities and food on campus but there won’t be opportunities off the campus for anything fun

The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia is very nice and known for its food, but it's not cheap.

It's only a couple hours drive away, and isn't far from the moutains for a drive.
