Road Trip from Minnesota to Michigan Upper Peninsula

Hello travelers!

My family is planning a road trip from the Twin Cities in Minnesota to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with our 6 and 8 year old boys and could use some advice on routes and stops along the way.

We are planning on going for 9 days so we could do an overnight stop along the way if its enticing!

We are going to be staying hotels (just don't have the time to properly plan camping)

We have passports as well if that helps!

Hello Bosstone75,

What time of the year are you planning on traveling. Are there any parts of the UP you are interested in seeing?

A place you might like is Curtis, MI in the UP. You could rent a cabin for a week at a resort that sits on one of the Manistique lakes in the area. Most come with a boat but motor is extra.

Here is a few Curtis sites -

Curtis Area Chamber of Commerce

Curtis Area Tourism Bureau

Here is a list of interesting places and how far

From Curtis to -

Germfask, Michigan - 22 miles (canoe, kayak river trip)

Seney National Wildlife Refuge - 23 miles

I had a black bear on my deck trying to get at some bird suet earlier this week. I had to chase him off. Happens a few times a year.

You could also check out events happening in the UP while you are here.

Events in the UP are fun.

What type of activities does your family enjoy?

Would you prefer a couple of base locations to stay where you can venture from so you can reduce the amount of times you have to pack back up to leave?
