Disney & Universal w/ whole fam- public trans/hotel?

Hello-

Planning a trip in October 5/6 days, going with 5 adults& 3yo &1yo. Looking for suggestions:

- Is it possible to do the trip without a rental car?

- recommendations for hotel near Disney with trans to the park? I have heard the Hyatt (?) Orange County is a good one- thoughts? We’re aiming to pay not more than $250/night. Pool is a must.

- Recommendations for hotel near Universal Studios? The hill mentioned in posts about the two nearest universal hotels sounds intimidating with old people and a big stroller. We also want to do the walk of fame and maybe a tour.

- Feasible to do a vacation rental for any of this? Suggestions on location?

- We would enjoy staying in Venice Beach or Santa Monica but not sure how to get to/from the parks with public transit. Ideas?

Looking forward to recommendations!!!

Here is the Anaheim forum for your Disney and hotel questions there:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g29092…

From LAX, get transportation there via Disneyland Shuttle:

You'll need to transfer to LA/Hollywood. Without car seats (it sure would help if you brought them), use

Orange County transit is called ARTIC, this link should provide you with Amtrak and Metrolink trains to LA's Union Station.

http://www.anaheim.net/3329/ARTIC

From there, use Metro Red line to Hollywood, where you should base yourselves. If you can find an Airbnb within walking distance to a Metro train station, that would work fine, otherwise most of the Hollywood hotels are near a station. Use your favorite booking site to find hotels, share your short list with us. Inquire with your potential host about proximity to a Metro station.

You can use Metro red line to Universal, there's a tram that will take you from the station to the gate. You can use Metro red line to downtown LA's 7th Metro Station, transfer to Metro expo to visit the CA Science Center and Natural History Museum. Use Metro bus #704 to and from Santa Monica.

There are also HOHO tour options in Hollywood.

The Hyatt Regency is too far. Try the Residence Inn Maingate, Candy Cane Hotel and Desert Palms.

In LA try the Orchid Suites and Magic Castle Hotel.
