RT-PCR test or standard PCR test required for Dubai entry?

So we are flying out to Dubai on 30th August (family of 5, 2 adults, one 13 year old, one 11 year old and a 5 year old).

I am struggling to find any concrete info on which test we need to board our flight with Emirates.

Some literature states the test must be a RT-PCR test from a walk in supervised clinic, (not a home test), but other literature i have read, and reviews on this forum refer to a standard PCR test with a "fit to fly" certificate??

I am so confused and wish i had never even booked it to be honest!

Can anyone confirm which test we need please? Thank you so much!

Hi Roodle,

I’m off to Dubai on the 1st of Sept. Been a bit confusing trying to find all the right info, but what I’ve found is that you need an RT-PCR test with a fit to fly printed certificate within 72 hours of flying. We’ve booked our tests with boots in store as I’ve heard you cannot take home kits. On the website it says PCR test but after further research it looks like it covers RT-PCR. Costs £85 at boots

You do not need a ‘fit to fly’ certificate - that’s just branding. Your PCR test results in hard copy are fine.

As for concrete evidence, it’s right there on Emirates Covid hub and the FCDO advice. Not sure where else you’re looking but you don’t need to other than those 2 sites.

It’s well worth spending your time looking forward over the links in this thread. Sadly people don’t search deeply enough or in the correct place places, then post new threads which are self-defeating as they stop everyone from reading the threads with the correct info on 😊😉

3. Re: RT-PCR test or standard PCR test required for Dubai entry?

Thank you!

It is an absolute minefield isnt it?!!

I asked in Boots and was told it is not a RT-PCR test and we will have to travel to Cardiff or Bristol as the nearest location for a walk in RT-PCR test (we lives near 2 hrs away from these!!).

I really dont want to travel all that way with 3 kids if we can pop up the road to boots! Honestly, my brain aches with all this covid nonsense!

I work for the NHS and have been on the frontline with covid for the last 18 months and i just want a holiday to get away from it!! lol!!

Thanks.

The links you refer to are the links i have read, on numerous occasions, but in themselves are contradictory!!

They refer to a RT-PCR test and then a PCR test?

Has anyone had a standard PCR test which comes with a FTF certificate and it been accepted? or does it have to the the full blown RT-PCR test??

Have you looked at Express Test? They have 20 locations in London.

The two sources I specifically mentioned are explicitly clear.

I’ve taken the time to post it to avoid this kerfuffle, all that’s needed is for them to be read. Thoroughly.

You need a PCR test. You need a hard copy, any provider approved by public Heath authority in country is fine.

If still in doubt, search ‘boots’ on this forum and you will see boots offer two streams of testing process, *but it’s the same test* just in one case, called fit to fly - to try and help people who want it made simpler.

Thanks but i live in South West England so London is even further!!!🙈

All i want to understand is whether the PCR test and the RT-PCR test is the same as my childten will be absolutely distraught (and i will probably end up divorced!!) If i get to the airport and havent got the right flipping test done!!🙈🙈🙈

Oh that’s strange. On their website https://www.boots.com/covid-19-testing/covid-19-testing-service first question under FAQs says it’s an RT-PCR. Check it out.

If still in doubt after that, search ‘RT-PCR’ and you will find many threads, all trying to elaborate on difference.

All you need to know is this. If it has PCR in the name of the test you pay for, and it’s not a home test, and you will get something you can print out, you are good to go.

Trust me. Months of posting the info; not had a complaint yet.

Roodle; your profile says London. Are you, or in SW England?

What’s your nearest major town/city?

There’s a Eurofins at Aztec West, Bristol. Any good?
