Kia Ora Cleo, welcome to the Kiwi forums.

Been some time since we last drove that old route from Whangaruru into Russell. I recall the final portion of the road closer to Russell is sealed. I'm not sure that there is a road to the former whaling station, apart from DOC walking tracks on that peninsula.

We quite like Kia ora or some other form of greeting!

Google maps and street view are useful for this sort of thing, if you drop onto Rawhiti Rd which goes to the Whangamumu track you will see that most of it is not sealed, there is no road shown to Whangamumu whaling station. However the gravel road does look in good condition and it is not so far so it should not be an issue to drive on other than in a very bad rain storm.

Chur.
