Bay of Islands Cruises

My husband and I are arriving for one day on a cruise ship and we begin tendering at 8:00 am. We wanted to do a cruise through the islands/dolphin cruise, but it seems all of the companies I have contacted leave promptly at 8:15, and there's probably no way we can get to them by that time. My question is does anyone know if there are any cruise "tours" from either Paihia or Russell that leave a little later in the morning? Are there people waiting at docks to take us tourists out for a half day if we don't book ahead?

Thanks all!

Hi Jan,

The Explore Group does a 4.5 hour trip to Hole in the Rock, from Paihia. Leaves at 10am. Explore Group also has a ferry from Paihia to Otehi Bay on Urupukapuka island, this trip takes 40 minutes.

Check with them in case they have an arrangement to take pre-booked cruise passengers that day.

Besides cruise ships, the Bay of Islands is also busy on a daily basis with coach tours, and casual bookings. Combined with a cruise ship, it could be that available space is absorbed readily.

From Waitangi wharf, cruise passengers are shuttled to Paihia wharf.
