Hopefully last request for best place to stay.

I'm a 73 year old physically fit male who likes to walk. I am travelling solo and would like to stay at a location in Malta that can meet the following requirements:

1. I don't need a pool or beach.

2. I don't mind budget hotels as long as they are clean and comfortable.

3. I won't have a car.

4. I would like access to buses that will take me to important and interesting sites within a reasonable time.

5. I don't like lots of noise.

6. I don't like crowds.

I would appreciate suggestions as to where I should stay in Malta, and if possible, suggestions as to what hotels, BnB's or apartments to stay.

Sliema gives access to buses and ferries and more accommodation options yet is still easy to get to Valetta all while avoiding the noise of St. Julian's.

Sliema fits the bill but it can be crowded in places. Think about the Carlton Hotel if you're on a low budget - it's small and cramped, but the staff are lovely and the rooms are clean. Maybe also the Park Hotel.

If you want to get further away from potential noise and crowds, there are apartments in the quieter areas of Valletta but accommodation here is more expensive than elsewhere.

You could even consider getting away from the "touristy" parts completely by looking further inland - maybe an apartment in Attard, Balzan, somewhere like that.

Sliema is my suggestion but it will not fulfil your desire for uncrowded surroundings.

In Malta, you have selected a highly populated island.

If you truly plan to venture out a great deal, Sliema offers you very good access.

Don't get me wrong, it's not rowdy, it's simply a busy town with a tourist focus. It's actually one of Malta's premium residential areas.

Another vote for Sliema mainly for it`s situation and ease of getting about,

Consider Valletta for better access to buses. It's not too crowded and not noisy either and overall a MUC better place to stay than Sliema. Don't forget its the 'European City of Culture' this year with lots going on in the city
