There are 3 main beaches within walking distance Pondomos is Sandy and shallow not good for snorkelling but has a good taverna, then Ftenia reached either by road or coastal track, Rocky and pebbly, good for snorkelling and has a taverna, the third is Kania which is a lovely 30 min walk from town, although a bus is available, crystal waters great for swimming and snorkelling and has a fantastic taverna.

A nice short walk is a circle from the harbour towards Pondomos, round by the windmills, down to Ftenia and back along the costal track to the harbour. You can also walk up to the old town and castle. There is also a monestry at the far side of the island which is quite a walk away, but the mini bus goes over there on Friday evening if you are interested in seeing it without walking so far.

Lazy lunches, good food and drinks - you will be spoilt for choices on Halki. Never had a bad meal and the families who run the bars and tavernas are really friendly.

Take enough cash with you as although there is ATM it is not always refilled.

Hope you have a fantastic time.

All of post #1 but can I suggest that you go up to the monastery by taxi or bus and then have a walk down if you are able to. It is mainly downhill but offers great views and is so peaceful up there (apart from the goats)

Hope you are not using the duster too much! We find that when we are in Halki a bit of dust never matters.

Hi, we are in Halki next week, I was just wondering whether any/many restaurants will take cards? Also have you had any problems getting cash from the ATM?

Many thanks

Apparently the tavernas are now supposed to have card machines but they may not always work, cash is still the preferred currency, the ATM does work but as always please do not rely on it, it can run out of money and to refill it can take at least a day.

Crazy question I know but how long would you recommend a stay on Halki? 🦀

Well, we had two weeks which was bliss, but not everyone likes the peace and quiet for that long?!
