FNC to LPA on Binter Airlines

Hello,

I'm flying FNC to LPA(Gran Canaria) on Binter Airlines on a Saturday night 20:00 flight time. It's a relatively short flight from Madiera to Canary Island but is that consider international and I need to go through customs? Are security lines long. Please let me know how early I should arrive at airport. Thank you!

You airline itinerary or baording pass will tell you when you must arrive for checkin, but for flights within Europe it is usually 90 minutes before departure. There are no customs formalities on departure.

Have flown that route several times as I used to live on the island of La Palma (an extra Binter hop or two) and it's one of my favourite flights for several reasons. Incredibly quick and relaxed at both ends. From exiting the plane at FNC and without needing to wait for luggage, I was out of the airport via a side channel in under two minutes. LPA is much bigger though, so a bit more of a walk.

That's great to hear. So my other question is FNC to LPA looks like an ATR plane with smaller carryon requirement of 45x35x25cm, Then I'm going to LPA to MAD which is an Embraer plane with the more normal standard size of 52x40x25cm. Is Binter strict on checking carryon bag size and is the ATR plans overhead really that much smaller that my 52x40x25cm won't fit in overhead? It would cost extra to check in my hand luggage but to your point I would also much rather save the time and get off the plane with my standard size carryon in tow. 45x35x25cm is like Easyjet size:(

Hi! Your flight from FNC (Madeira) to LPA (Gran Canaria) is indeed an international flight, so you will need to go through passport control not customs.Security lines at Madeira can vary but it's a good idea to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight to ensure a smooth process. Safe travels!

The plane will likely be an ATR 72 prop. Binter used to be quite relaxed, but I haven't left Madeira in a few years now, so I don't know if circumstances have changed. I used to travel light and didn't use the overhead lockers, so can't speak to what bag sizes will actually fit. But I did see other passengers load their hold luggage themselves before boarding (door open to a waste height baggage space next to the steps on) and then just pick it up when they disembarked. So maybe that's the worst case scenario, if you would excuse the pun?

Possibly best to contact Binter directly to be sure now?

A quirk of the ATR 72 is that you board from the back, and the expectation is that you fill the seats from the front. So it's first on last off/last on first off, particularly on full flights between the Canary Islands. But I was never on an FNC to LPA flight back then which wasn't relatively empty - ranging from a handful of passengers to about half full.
