The Reserve? Belmond Reid's Palace? The Cliff Bay hotel?

My family of three is visiting Funchal in Jan 2025. We’re choosing between The Reserve, Belmond and the Cliff Bay. We’re looking for the best hotel on Madeira. Please help!!!

The Reserve is new? Has anyone stayed there? Seems to have good reviews but one would go use Savoy facilities?

The Belmond is a bit dated? What about the Cliff?

Appreciate your help!!!

We had a similar dilemma last summer, and I am so glad we chose Les Suites at Cliff Bay. The suites are enormous and beautifully appointed, the views are sublime, and the service was faultless. Breakfast each morning was a delight, and the dinners we had there were outstanding. We also went to Reid’s for cocktails and found it charming, but when our waiter asked where we were staying, and we told him, his response was, “Ahh—much better.” 😂

The Reserve looks like a great concept, but we went to SP for drinks and didn’t like the Vegas vibes. Plus, we wanted to be right on the water.

We have stayed at Cliff Bay many times and it’s fantastic and highly recommend. If you want something even more special then I recommend Les Suites which is part of same hotel so you can use all Cliff Bay facilities with added bonus of their infinity pool and breakfast at Avista which is pretty special. We stayed in the Duplex Suite last year which has its own lift which is fun. Returning next month again in a duplex but also couple nights in the main house. It’s not cheap but honestly, compared to other hotels of similar standard I thinks it’s a bargain.
