Least busy island - St Croix or St John?
Save

Hello TA friends,

I'm arranging a family vacation for next January. Trip will include my parents (77 & 80), myself and my sister, and 3 kids (20, 17, 13). We've never been to USV Isands before and are trying to decide between STJ and STX. Any advice on which is the least busy island? We'd like to be able to go out for some meals and spend a lot of time swimming and snorkeling. My folks will be pretty much beach bound or wading.

I'm wondering if the older advice I've read that STX is less touristy is still true? Any suggestions on which part of the island we should hope to stay?

So grateful for your help & best wishes!

~Holly

STX is WAY less busy than STJ with loads to do and see. Excellent restaurants and although the snorkeling isn't as good as on St Thomas or St John it's more than adequate and you won't be disappointed. Generally speaking, STX has more of a Caribbean feel than STJ.

I'll leave accommodation recommendations up to others!

Yep, STX. St. John is going through some growing pains with COVID travel. We live on St. John and this has been a crazy busy season.

I agree with the above and STX is a lot more budget friendly than STJ. You can also stay on the beach on STX so your parents can just relax if they don't feel like going out and about. I would recommend posting on the STX website with your questions and for recommendations about where to stay. Be specific about what you want and budget. We stay at Cottages by the Sea which is on the west side of STX but requires a drive to dinner. Good luck planning!
