Does anyone know if we need to wear masks while exercising outside? I go for a 4 mile walk daily and just want to be prepared.

In PR, masks are required when outside. It is enforced by police in the San Juan area (though not everyone wears them at the beach). But not enforced outside the San Juan area.

Are most the restaurants open in Old Town San Juan and beach area? Is there a curfew? Is the national park open? What area should we stay to be best located?

thank you

We are in Condado and tonight a cop motion to my husband from the other side of the street to pull his mask up. Def taking it serious in SJ area. Not so much in others.

We just returned...also stayed in Condado. The police were everywhere...writing $100 tickets for no masks. Very different group of tourists there now...which I guess is reason for additional police. There are groups of motorcycle cops everywhere...police vans just parked! Been going there for 10 years, first time we saw a fight in a restaurant and in the casino. Sad because it’s never been like that before! Have fun, but be safe!

@Penny T: The government called for more -and quite intimidating- police presence due the violent incidents that have taken place recently, and sadly, by tourists. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has brought up the worst in some. Just another downside of the terrible times we are living in.

It is not just in San Juan for enforcement. In Luquillo, if you are not on the beach you will get scolded by most locals if you are not wearing a mask and no store or restaurant will let you in without one.

"...and no store or restaurant will let you in without one."

That's actually everywhere on the island. Not just Luquillo and San Juan.

Same as as the mainland US: all indoor businesses require patrons to wear masks.
