Luxury Bahia Principe Esmeralda

Hey everyone!

I am going to this resort early January, has anyone stayed at this resort before? I'm wondering what the age range is like. Are there a lot of kids? Couples? Teenagers?

Anything I should know about before booking?

Thanks! :)

There is a mix of ages - the majority would have children and younger children versus those with teens, but we have never seen the pool "crowded".

There certainly are couples there that are without children, but I would say, less than those that do have children - very few singles.

The resort is presently only 300 rooms and is undergoing an expansion at this time of an additional 3 buildings of rooms, which will bring the total number of rooms up to 504 when fully completed by the end of December 2012.

They are also adding another pool, the new snack bar is now open and a new a la carte (Asian) will also be added by the end of December this year.

It is a quieter resort in the evening, as it seems most guests with young children tend to turn in a bit earlier than those without.

Guests do use the shared large shopping & entertainment area at the Bahia called the "Pueblo Principe" which can be an active location - it contains the casino (not owned by the resort so drinks are not part of the all inclusive, disco (open from 11pm to 2am), sports bar, kareoke bar and patio lounge, internet shop, smoke shop, many clothing , gift and jewellery shops, local vendors with their wares, and an outdoor stage where a house band and audience participation events are often held. There also is a large theatre, called the Tropicana Theatre, where large nightly shows are held with two performances per night - one at 9pm and the second at 10:15pm.

Here is a listing of the nightly shows at the "Tropicana Theatre":

Monday - Michael Jackson

Tuesday - Bahia International at 9:00 pm and Mens Vs Women at 10:15 pm.

Wednesday - Legends twice at 9:00 pm and at 10:15 pm.

Thursday - Circus - twice at 9:00 pm and at 10:15 pm.

Friday - Star are Here at 9:00 pm + Grammy´s Show at 10:15 pm.

Saturday - Boggie Show twice at 9:00 pm and at 10:15 pm.

Sunday - AZUKA at 9:00 pm + Mister Bahia Principe at 10:15 pm.

It is a very beautiful resort with well appointed rooms, all in three story buildings (without elevator), does have a private beach area directly in front of the beach pool, (all of the pools have swim up bars - not the jacuzzi pool of course) an adult only jacuzzi pool surrounded by 9 cabanas for privacy, shade, relaxing, butler service (ask if you wish to have it when checking in so that they know which butlers to assign to specific rooms - no additional cost), pillow menu, top shelf liquor, room safe included in your all inclusive and beach waiter service.

The pool closes at 6:00 pm - and the lobby bar closes at 11:30pm

The main buffet, which is excellent in my opinion, and the a la cartes all open at 6:30pm for dinner.

Guests of the Esmeralda may use all of the facilities of the adult only Bahia Ambar (except their main buffet) as long as they do not have children under 18 attending with them and Ambar guests may use the facilities of the Esmeralda - again, with the exception of their main buffet.

Esmeralda guests may use all of the facilities at the other 3 Bahia resorts in the Bahia complex, (except their gourmet a la cartes and main buffet) but the guests at the other 3 resorts are not permitted use of the Esmeralda facilities.

You may use all of the pools in the Bahia complex, including the two smaller pools half way into the Bavaro and Punta Cana resort and the pool at the Bahia Bavaro Premier resort. The large beach pool at the Bavaro/Punta Cana resort next to you, is a very active location !!

The resort has an excellent tram service that operates 21.5 hours per day - great to go to the Tropicana Theatre and Pueblo Principe.

Here is a map of the resort that will give you a good overview prior to arrival.

The Esmeralda is shown in the bottom right corner.

When the link loads, click on the map for easier viewing - legend at the bottom. You will be provided with a nice pocket size fold out version of this map when checking in - it will be in your Welcome Package, along with room cards, daily event listings etc..

When you arrive at the resort, you will be dropped off at the Bahia Punta Cana lobby. Just tell the porters there that you are a guest at the Esmeralda resort - they will put your luggage onto a separate trolly and transport you to the lobby of the Esmeralda where you will check in.

You are also able to pre-request your a la cartes (unlimited) prior to arrival if you wish, and I would recommend doing so. Simply send an email to Domingo Reyes No Sooner than 7-10 days prior to your arrival to both of these email address's:

The second email address just added is:

You may also "request" a room location prior to arrival by sending an email to Albania Batista at:

Do so No Sooner than 7-10 days prior to your arrival - and as you would also do for Domingo for a la carte requests, provide both Domingo and Albania with your names, booking number, date of arrival and tour operator name - they will always do their very best to accommodate you.

If you wish to attend the seafood night at the main buffet (called "Gala" night) - advise Domingo in the email you send about the a la carte "requests" in advance.

The main buffet is themed each night and here they are:

Monday ........ Española

Tuesday ....... Italian

Wednesday .....Oriental

Thursday ... Gala (seafood) - most popular

Friday ......... Dominicana

Saturday ............... Mexican

Sunday .......... American (Like BBQ - different meats)

Here is the dress code for all of the a la cartes with the exception of the "gourmet" a la carte called the "Don Pablo"

" No bathing-suits or sleeveless shirts or open toed shoes - dress shoes or a nice sandal is acceptable. Dress shorts, long pants, long or short sleeve shirts for men are fine - ladies are good with shorts, capris, dresses, pants"

Here is the dress code for the Don Pablo gourmet a la carte at the Ambar - For men, long pants or trousers - no shorts or sleeveless shirts - long or short sleeve shirts - no open toed shoes - dress shoes or a nice sandal is fine. For the ladies, any shoe is acceptable, but not swimming sandals - flip flops as they refer to them.

For the buffet, open toed footwear, including flip flops, dress shorts, pants are permitted for all meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner - no bathing suits or sleeveless shirts.

You will find that many men will wear a pair of kahki long pants to dinner and the ladies very often are dressed in capris or a dress.

There is now a personal trainer available at the gym (you would use the gym located at the Ambar resort) - the price of the Personal Trainer is $15 for 50 minutes.

There is a Professional Tennis Coach at an extra cost also available if you wish to use him - rates are:

For One hour lesson between 8am to 9pm.

I do hope this does assist you.

I agree with the previous poster - was going to say 8 minutes.

I prefer to take the tram - bad knee from all my "moon walk" dancing !!:-)

Thanks - was picturing a 30 - 45 minute walk. 10 minutes (I prefer to "stroll") is wonderful!!! We like to watch the evening shows but have been known to stagger back!

For the AMBAR section, only the room request email/contact is the same:

Albania Batista at: asistenteventasbppuj@bahia-principe.com

Advance dining requests go to Leonardo Astacio at: gerenterrppbpamb@bahia-principe.com

Be sure to include your exact arrival date, tour operator's name, and their booking number and send your requests no sooner-than 7-to-10 days ahead of time!
