AM resorts unlimited vacation club, did i sign up?!

*sign*

So I just arrived at my resort in Dominican Republic. A guy came up to us with spa/casino coupons and told us to come to some resort tour tomorrow morning for 90 minutes. He said it this was all included in our vacation package. He then had us sign a paper for using the coupons (states stuff like only one coupon per person per service, one coupon per bottle of wine, etc). The paper doesn't say anything about it costing us anything to get these coupons and they didn't ask us for our credit card info. I didn't realize the unlimited vacation club was a timeshare thing until afterwards when I googled it, I just thought it was a resort tour.

So based on what I've been reading it seems like you don't actually sign up for the timeshare until after the 90+ min presentation and I assume you give them your credit card...right?

I guess I'm just freaking out a bit because we did provide our signature but it was only for the coupons (which we now won't use) and the piece of paper doesn't say anything about the coupons costing us money or anything like that. But then why have us give our signature??

Also, we bought the vacation package through redtag so there's no way the resort would have our credit card info right???

Someone please confirm that I didn't just sign up for a damn timeshare....

No worry. You just signed for coupons

The 90 min is a high pressure presentation and I would recommend not going unless you did your homework and understand what the vacation club is and how to negotiate. I have met lots of people who are happy with the club and many also unhappy.

I agree with bbgamer. You only signed for coupons. If it was me, I'd give back the coupons and tell them politely but firmly you won't attend. Unless you're interested in purchasing a time share of course, but it sounds like you're not.

Yes you need a credit card. They are relentless also. some would say sharks.

The price they say is not the price you can get it for

consider there are annual fees to pay and often you are stuck going to the same series of resorts - you might want to travel elsewhere in 20 years - consider that

they can change what they want in the contract but you still have to pay - one sided

the price they quote on flight is complete BS

In the end it can be good, you have to calculate the costs,

do research before on resales that people are selling on the internet. waaaay cheaper.

If interested in timeshare or vacation club as they are calling it now, go to the meeting, leave the CC in the safe, so that way you won't get wrapped up in their pitch - believe me they are very good at it.

Hear what the club has to offer, leave, do some of your own research on resales, and don't worry, though they say the offer is only good while you are there- tomorrow it will be the same!!
