Hi! We plan to visit this area for more than a week in April and we will have two children (ages 7 and 5). We anticipate a largely laid back vacation where we don't do something intensive every day - but if there are any local highlights we should see, I'd appreciate any pointers.

I see we're in a national park and I'm told we're a close drive to some beaches. We would like to see Juno Beach but otherwise we're open to anything.

Thanks in advance!

You’re some way from Juno beach, about an hour. At Cherbourg there’s the Cité de la Mer, a museum about the sea and has a three story aquarium. Next to it is a nuclear submarine to visit.

Overlooking tghe town is mont Roule, a. Fort built by the French to kerp out the English but used by the germans in the war. You can visit the museum any day, but the bunkers are on organised visits.

West of Cherbourg is La Hague and it’s rocky coast. Thorp chateau is around there. Used in the polanski film Tess.

The East coast has Barfleur and St Vaast la Houge. Next to St Vaast is the ile of Tattihou. You can walk out at low tide or take an amphibious bus at regular times.

Patton had hos camp at Nehou. The actual site needs finding.

North of Utah beach are two gun batteries Azeville and Crisbecq. Both are interesting to visit.

Utah beach has a great museum as does Ste mere Eglise.

An hour to the south is Mont St michel.

Juno beach is 25 minutes past Bayeux which has the famous tapestry and Cathedral and is a great town to stroll around.

You’ll have plenty to do.

You should look up the Abbey d’Ardennes near Authie. There’s a memorial where 22 Canadians were assassinated.
