Issue with Review and Photo Reposting

Hi All,

I originally posted a review on December 30, 2024, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to check my email in time. Later, I discovered that TripAdvisor had sent me emails stating:

My photos were deleted for being marked as duplicates (though I have no idea how they are duplicates).

I needed to take action by clicking a button in the email.

Since I missed these emails, my first review was deleted. When I contacted technical support, they informed me that the review was removed and provided me with a copy, advising me to repost it again.

The Problem:

Today, I reposted my review, but the system again rejected my photos, citing duplication—which I still do not understand.

If the duplication is due to similarity with photos from other guests, that only reinforces that the negative experience at the property is real and consistent.

If the duplication is due to the photos attached to my old review, then why did technical support say the review was deleted? And if they were truly deleted, how are the old photos still affecting my submission?

Next Issue:

Now, I am unable to contact technical support because there is no suitable category for this issue. The closest option available is "Edit/Remove Review", which only allows me to request a review removal, not fix this error.

Request for Help:

Can anyone help me get my photos reinstated and ensure my review is posted correctly? I appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

That is a known flaw with photo publication.

Yes, you can contact staff. See the Top Questions on the right side of the page, full TripAdvisor website. Pick any option with a text box, preferably to Review Staff.

Thank You @PacificNWFamily for your advice.

the problem is tripadvisor is not explaining the reason of why any photo is rejected.

Once the photos are in the system, the computer will always class them as duplicates.

Can you edit the photos before submitting?

The computer can be tricked in to thinking they are new photos.

tripadvisor is not explaining

.

And they never will. They don't like to explain why.

hasbrey, it would be better, if you submit the new Photos, because TA doesn't accept the resubmission of the older Photos: i.e. submitted again, they duplicate the initially submitted Photos. If TA has already published your Review, you can only submit new Photos, or just have the Review, published without Photos.

Editing older Photos (cropping, resizing) may create further problems with getting them published.

There definitely seems to be a problem with Tripadvisor's claim photos are duplicates when they are not. It didn't happen before but recently more and more pictures are rejected as 'duplicates'. One of our reviews (with photos) was posted to the wrong location, so we deleted it (together with the pictures) and moved it to the right location. The review was published but the photos were rejected as 'duplicates'. Tripadvisor seems to keep a trace of 'deleted' pictures and rejects them when they are resubmitted.

Would have been better to move the review to the correct listing, rather than delete it.

As said, once the computer has registered the photos they will then always be seen as duplicates.

There are other examples of removed Photos. In one of my Reviews, Photos were removed (6 out of 10), and I received 6 identical TA emails (one for each removed Photo), saying that (quote): "these Photos maybe duplicates" (? 'may be' ?). Those were newly taken Photos. It took several months to get those Photos restored, after multiple, detailed explanations and requests. Sometimes, the system goes into one of its malfunction 'moods', and even proper, new Photos can be marked as "duplicates". That happens quite often lately.

Yes, everything submitted is stored in the company records -- Reviews, Photos, Forums, etc.

It also looks like "reposting" as a term is usually applied here to users' actions on TA platform (designated as "share" the Photo or Review), and not to the process of resubmitting the same Photo ("duplicate") for a new publication.
