In spite of it being nearly 9 p.m. on a Wednesday evening, we were warmly welcomed. We shared a caprese in which the cheese was not cut up and benefitted from this simple way of serving. My companion had a second starter of calamari while I had the spaghetti pescatore with generous helpings of prawns, mussels, squid in a tomato sauce.
It was one of the best Italian meals we have had (including in Italy)

This restaurant is now located on Rokeby Road in Subiaco. There were six of us and our experience is mixed. Firstly this is not a place to have a romantic dinner because when we arrived the noise generated by the customers was exceptionally loud.
We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and immediately shown to our table.
Between the 6 of us we ordered varied mains with the spatchcock being the standout and the pasta marinara being pretty ordinary. The grilled fish was yummy but you've got to question the worth at $39.00. In relation to the starters the calamari was e collect with the sliced chorizo was very chewy.
Service was good although as a result of a busy kitchen we probably waited longer than expected.
BYO is a plus.

Following a recommendation - Went on a Friday evening for a table of four - on the early 5.45pm sitting (must be gone by 7.30pm). Cheek by jowl seating in a full restaurant, and consequently very noisy with guests having to almost shout conversations. Food was O.K. with standard suburban offerings - not exceptional. Pricing was on the high side for antipasto platter which appeared as open the larder / jar and assemble; and pasta dishes average. No need to return.

We finally got a 5.45pm meal start time had to be gone within just over an hour. Got the big hint from staff. food very overrated and disappointing, watery tomato sauce and I found 2 small prawns, a little white fish in what was supposed to be a seafood meal. Never complained as we had guests. service very good helpful friendly wait staff. very noisy certainly could not see why the popularity.

Not that I've eaten at many Italian restaurants. And then I'm not counting a pizzeria. But god this was a good restaurant. The dishes were really of such good quality. And I think that's how Italian food should taste. I think a true Italian would agree with me. The restaurant is small and cozy. The staff is friendly. If you are near Shenton Park you should definitely eat here one or more times. I'm sure you will write such a good review.

Very friendly staff and very attentive which was a plus. The kitchen catered to our request to adjust the dishes to our liking, something which most restaurants don't accomodate. The flavor of the food was very well balanced and their choice of wine was also quite acceptable.
Do I recommend this restaurant, absolutely. It gets a bit crowded especially on Friday evenings but the tables are well spread apart albeit some tables for two are a bit too small, but manageable.
Have added this into my select list of Good Food Restaurants.... Thank you

Firstly restaurant needs to update it's new address from Shenton Park to its new premises in Subiaco. Our family of 6 adults and 3 teenagers celebrated a 'get-together' at this Italian restaurant. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table immediately upon arrival. We ordered a range of starters to share which included the grilled octopus, meat balls, prawns, chorizo sausage and more. This was followed by dishes which included goat chops (simply delicious), gnocchi, grilled barramundi, lasagne and linguine ragu. All dishes were flavoursome and tasty.
Our service was first-class and the waiter went out of his way to ensure things ran smoothly. In fact we commented that we could not remember when last we had superior service.
The positive also was BYO wine.
Highly recommended and will certainly return.

First, someone needs to correct the address. This reataurant moved about 3 years ago to 361 Rokeby Road, Subiaco. That is around the corner from where they were, I guess about a kilometer distance. That said, the move made them the closest restaurant to my home. It then took me three years to try it. Big, big mistake. I decided last night to finally give it a try. Friendly staff squeezed in a booking, warned me it was "the table near the front door". Absolutely nothing wrong with the table, the service or the food. Not cheap, but great value shown by the sheer popularity. The reaso to eat out, good flavour. This was super excellent. Every mouthful a delight. I could actually hear the table next to us also raving about the flavour. And that was just the antipasto. It was flavour, flavour, flavour throughout. I can't comment on the desserts, we could,t fit one in, even to share but that table next to us said they were fantastic too. I can't recomment this small, casual restaurant enough. Licensed but you can bring your own wine, which I suggest you do.

Piccolo has a great reputation. It is well deserved due to a combination of great food, pleasant and professional service. Last week, when we visited this small restaurant in Shenton Park, the entree of squid for $12.00 was one of the best value and most delicious experiences I have had for months. Superb.
The main course orders were mainly fish chosen by my guests, but for me it was a simple pasta dish. When 'simple' pasta dishes are prepared they must be good, as there are not many places where you can 'hide' poorly prepared spaghetti for example. It was perfectly done and delightful.
The only 'warning' I make is that as this is a busy place, during winter when everyone is inside, it really gets noisy; like 'what did you say?' noisy. During summer when there is alfresco dining it's not a issue, but inside it really is very challenging just to have a conversation with the person directly opposite.
Apart from everyone having to 'yell', this is a lovely place, good food, well-trained staff and a great Italian feel about it.

The two of us enjoyed a balmy summer's evening outside for a lovely dinner. Staff at Piccolo Trattoria were friendly and efficient. The food we had was mostly very enjoyable - hearty, well cooked, flavoursome and good value.
There were couples, groups of friends and families with children all enjoying meals in a relaxed 'trattoria' style.
We really enjoyed the Costolette di Capretta (baby goat chops & vegetables), the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca (anchovies, capers, chilli) and the Insalat di Arance e Pistacchio (salad with orange and roasted pistachio) - all very tasty and well prepared. We didn't like the Fried Crispy Whitebait which were dry and lacked flavour.
This is a lovely, friendly, 'local' place to eat and highly recommended.

Have dined here 3 times now within the last 12 months. Last night’s visit sadly confirmed my misgivings about this popular neighbourhood venue.
The positives:
Lively bustling atmosphere, bit noisy inside. Pleasant, efficient staff, and well paced service. Food portions generous without being overwhelming. Broccoli and pancetta pasta was excellent. Risotto was well cooked and very enjoyable
The negatives:
Their tap water tastes awful. Gnocchi on my first visit were doughy & unpleasant. Last night’s Mozzarella in the Caprese Salad was tough and tasteless. Creme Brulee wasn’t set, Tiramisu was runny too, and balance of flavours seemed wrong - slightly bitter. That these classic dishes failed, demonstrates to me that something is not right in the kitchen at Piccolos.
Yes, this may be a popular neighbourhood haunt, but the inconsistency and basic mistakes with such classic dishes mean I’ll be eating Italian style elsewhere.

A very good meal. Family style, not pretentious but good reasonably priced food. BYO or wine in store so you can keep the wine cost contained.
We were there on a Sunday night and it was very busy but the staff coped admirably.
Certainly recommend

In these uncertain time with travel cancellations happening for all ,
now is the time to have a quality go-to local restaurant for the planned night out with family or friend or for the unexpected evening when you just don’t feel like cooking.
We have found it in Piccolo Trattoria .
Friends recommended it to us and we have been there subsequently and will be going again soon .
Inside and out seating choice , the latter being great for our summer and autumn nights .
Fabulous young Italian and Australian wait staff , for whom noting is too much trouble .
Great Italian food and tables with red checked table cloths !
The real delicious deal : classy but casual , BYO and very well priced .

We arrived with a table of 8 (and 2 on our table were last minute) and were accommodated which was good with minimal waiting time. But as soon as we sat down, a male staff member came over to us and warned us to be quiet in quite a parental and inappropriate tone. We were not being loud and had just arrived. We were most offended by this and when we asked about it later on, the manager said that somebody had complained about our table’s level of noise. I don’t know how this would be possible when we had just walked in and the whole restaurant was loud and buzzing. There was no apology given at any time. This is such a shame as the food was quite good and the other staff members were cordial. Unfortunately we were insulted and this awful experience means that we will never attend this restaurant again.

My wife and I visit picollo's with our 2 year old daughter frequently. The food is always excellent, but even better than this is the service. Everyone there makes us feel like part of the family, even the chef's smiling and waving to our daughter through the window. We love coming and can highly recommend. Also, being BYO is a huge bonus!
