Extremely expensive - I was offered still or sparkiing water and got charged $20 for it, before I'd even seen the menu. The specials are offered verbally - but no prices. So a plate of rib and fries and salad, for one person, with no alcohol came to $70+ Barbadian - or nearly £35 in sterling. Unbelievable.

We were searching for a restaurant for our final night in Barbados, having exhausted the list our dear Bajan friend had given us. I was chatting with a guest from the UK at our hotel, and he told me that they were going to Local & Co, which had received an excellent write-up in England. It is a farm/ocean to table restaurant. We asked our butler, Peter Maynard, if he could get us in, and, of course, he was able to do it.
Local & Co is located in Speightstown, right in the center of town, and it was a short ride to get there. You enter the restaurant into a small market area, which offers jewelry, clothes, T-shirts, coffee, candy, homemade jams and hot sauce, as well a beautiful handmade cards ($25) and totes from Bangladesh. Passing through the market, you enter the bar area, and then the dining area. We sat on the edge of the outdoor deck, overlooking a small beach and walkway. The ocean was only about 30 feet away. It was a lovely setting and ambience (See photos).
The Menu offers Snacks & Small Plates to share, Crudos and Salads, as well as Bigger Plates. Our server, Leron, was a pleasant, professional and highly engaging young man, who enhanced our dining experience with his excellent suggestions and friendly banter. I started with a Queen Margaret Margherita, which was a non-sweet drink, containing fresh lime juice and tequila, without the sweeteners. It was so good I had a second! Catherine went with her traditional Absolut on the rocks with a sidecar of grapefruit juice. The juice arrived in a stylish carafe, and was freshly squeezed and delicious.
The Small Plates included Crisps, Farm Crudites, Goat cheese dip, smoked pork bites, pineapple chow, free range chicken bites, magic mushrooms and sheep curry croquettes. Crudos were a Crudo sampler, tuna tartare, ceviche (kingfish) and shrimp ceviche. Salad offerings included a Superfood salad, kale Caesar and an Antilles bowl. Bigger Plates included Catch of the day (barracuda or red snapper), Smashed Burger, Mahi & Lobster, Skillet Range chicken, Line caught tuna tataki, Lemongrass & turmeric coconut vegetable curry, flying fish tacos, shredded black belly sheep and a non-meat Rainbow burger.
We decided to share the Whipped Hatchman’s Goat Cheese Dip, with roasted beets and hot rosemary honey, and Magic Mushrooms. (See photos). The goat cheese dip was fresh and delicious, but the star course was the Magic Mushrooms! Lions Mane & Oyster mushrooms, lightly breadcoated and fried, with a spicy plant-based aioli and pickled sea purslane (a sort of seaweed). They were fabulous!
Our Bigger Plate choices were Mahi & Lobster for Catherine, and the Red Snapper Catch of the Day for me (See photos). Catherine’s dish was a very generous amount of food, including a full size fillet of Mahi-Mahi, and chunks of Caribbean lobster, served with Breadfruit Cou-cou and foraged sea purslane butter. She thought that it was a delightful dish that she was unable to consume in its entirety. I tasted it, and I agreed that it was a tasty meal. My Red Snapper fillet, served with organic greens (carrot purse) and Bajan Salsa Verde, was simply fantastic! It may be the best red snapper I’ve ever had, and I’ve had plenty. It was a thick fillet of snapper, which was perfectly prepared, moist & tender. The salsa verde was a perfect accompaniment. I’m repeating myself, but it was an outstanding dish!
Catherine shopped the market while I settled the check, and we are bringing some Bajan delights home with us from the charming place. If you are visiting Barbados, a visit to Local & Co is a necessary stop. This is definitely a “Don’t Miss” restaurant!

I'm a local and Booked my reservation with Marco first time going to this restaurant. On entering you were hit by the unique ambiance first impressions really counted that I even knew the food there had to taste good from looking at the ambiance alone. We were offered a drink by the bar it tooked me a minute to choose my cocktail because all of them sounded so good an the bar selection was huge I had a whiskey sour while waiting on our table, we were seated our table was next to the beach very romantic especially with the torches on the sand. The food was excellent I had the steak my friend had the seared tuna both were well plated, table service was on point an the evening went very smoothly. Kudos to Marco and the staff I'll be back!!! This place is really a Gem to discover.

I always hate to write a negative review but I feel that this is justified given the price/quality/service ratio of this place. And honestly, I wish I’d read the reviews on here before deciding to pay so much for such an average meal.
We went for dinner there yesterday evening and to be honest, after spending almost $700BBD for 3 people it hurts how awful the food was. The staff on arrival and at the bar were great, but the main service wasn’t extraordinary. For the prices being paid you’d expect a little more. The menu, on paper, seems to be packed of interesting dishes but the reality wasn’t that.
The tuna tartare starter lacked any depth of flavour, and it came with some broken crisps that were too small and greasy to eat alongside the tartare. There was also some type of spicy mayo sauce but the whole dish lacked the freshness you’d expect of a tuna tartare. In reality, it tasted like a Yo Sushi dish (I’ve had better dishes there tbh) and it completely missed the mark. The pork bites however were decent and felt more balanced, if a little cold on arrival.
The mains, where do I start. We were told to order more sides (as I’ve seen from other reviews this seems to be the norm even when the dish comes with sides), even though one of the mains came with mash, the other with rice. Seems a bit underhanded to ask people to do this without full knowledge of what the meal actually comes with, especially when ordering from the specials.
The lemongrass and turmeric coconut curry literally didn’t taste of lemongrass, turmeric or coconut. I find it absolutely astonishing how bland a dish could be. And add to that an extra $20 for almost non-existent chicken to the dish and you’re paying a very high price for something so poor. Avoid the dish at all costs!! (Reading the other reviews I’m not the only one who thinks this about this dish). It had to be up there with the most bland dishes I’ve ever eaten.
Another dish ordered by our party was the chicken from the specials board, and my god was it dry. Considering it was cooked on the bone, it was the driest, most bland chicken I’ve ever tasted. The only saving grace was the rum bbq sauce but even that couldn’t save the dish.
On to dessert which was the coffee/chocolate delice which tasted more like a factory made dessert than a ‘locally sourced product’.
There is a service charge is added into the bill at the end, which meant a $60-80 automatic tip, but when you don’t tip on top of that service charge you’re you are fast tracked out of the door without even a goodbye, or little thanks for spending over €200pp when the food isn’t even up to food truck levels.
Overall, location andambience 9/10, service 7/10, food 2/10.
*To caveat the review, my parents have visited the island previously and have a couple of great lunches here, although dinner was a bit of a car crash. As a previous reviewer said, the cost/quality ratio is not there in any way at all for a $230pp meal.

We were greeted by front of house and showed to our sea front table.
Served iced water and given menus were ordered wine and although a little expensive everything was good.
We were brought Artisan bread and butter which was very nice.
Up to this point all was perfect, the manager came and asked us if everything was ok and if the staff had explained everything.
Now for the food we both ordered the Skillet chicken at 80 dollars + service charge + tax.
The chicken came which was cold and so hard it was inedible neither of us could believe what we had just been in such a lovely restaurant.
At £150 for wine and inedible chicken was not what we were expecting, we dicided not to complain but to leave with a message to the manager of how bad the food was ( worst meal in Barbados ever).
The manager did offer a reduction, but we had already paid the bill.
A lovely restaurant but we wont be going back.

We visited for lunch, this is a mixed review!
Positives
* lovely restaurant and decor
*staff friendly and right amount of attention
* cocktails were good
* food delicious, shared a starter (spicy mescal shrimp ceviche) mains catch of the day and veg curry. Veg curry I would say was ok, the rest lovely.
Negative
* expensive!!
* service charge automatically added 12.5% making it even more expensive
* I always ask for service charge to be taken off and I can leave my own tip, I was told that it was non negotiable!! And we had to pay it!
* i didn’t leave any other tip
* I think £188 for lunch is expensive
* I was sent an email the following day asking for feedback back, which I replied regarding the service charge, I have had no response.
Based on their service charge, after all why to I pay a charge on top of an already expensive bottle of wine I can’t recommend this restaurant. Alas as food was good but for the price not amazing!!

Very disappointed as i was looking forward to eating here. To start off with don't choose a beach table, the chairs sunk into the sand and was very uncomfortable to sit in. We had one waitress helping us all evening, who seemed undertrained and overwhelmed. After being in the restaurant for 1.5 hours and only just receiving our starters, our waitress left. We were left with no one serving us for 30 minutes. When our main courses finally came, after a 2 hour wait, the food was cold, overcooked and below average. We felt obliged to complain as our experience was terrible. Thankfully they took our main courses off of the bill. By having been there before 2 years ago and loving the food and overall dining experience, we were very upset about how poorly the staff managed the situation. Unfortunately this restaurant has disappointed me and I will not be recommending or returning in the future.

We were very excited to visit Local & Co because it had been recommended to us by friends. We were greeted quickly and brought to our table. We then waited for over 20 minutes for someone to come and ask us our drink order, and that was only after we asked for service. We were informed that almost all of the smoked meat was sold out (they only had the fish left). Our reservation was at 6:30, so I found that interesting. The waitress told me that they sometimes only get 6 lbs of chicken and once it is sold, there is no more. I like the concept of being locally sourced food, but you can't sustain an entire dinner service on 6 lbs of chicken. I would recommend that they have daily features rather than having a 'regular' menu. We were all very disappointed because we were all looking forward to having the chicken and ribs.
We were in Barbados for 11 days and ate at all the high-end restaurants. The Local & Co had good food (from what was left on the menu as options), and the ambience is amazing. The real downfall here is the service. We had to proactively ask for everything and the wait time to get our food was extremely long. Unfortunately this isn't unique to us as we had friends who dined there a few nights before us and they waited for over 2 hours for their dinner.

Local And Co
Wow what a great find
We had booked for 9-00
But when we arrived early about a hour to be fair it was our intention to have a drink in the bar before which we did a great selection of cocktails where available and the Rum selection to much to chose from our cocktails were great
When our food arrived two off us had a spiralled carrot and chilli garnish which the waitress warned us was hot and guess what the chilli’s were indeed very hot however they did not detract from the food at all just don’t eat the garnish unless you like hot chilli’s our food right around the table was excellent and I thought good value for money
Service was excellent the waitress even took time to share her experiences on the party cruise boat as several off our party where interested in going
Would highly recommend

A restaurant is only as good as the sum of its parts. This is a difficult review. The restaurant is beautiful and you get quite a shock when you get in. It expands into open decking on the beach.
Our issues were organisational rather than gastric. We had a reservation for 7:30 and arrived on time. Informed table not ready and to wait in entrance. Eventually moved to a longe area for a drink. Having not had an order taken I went to bar and ordered. Whilst waiting we were approached 3 times and asked if we would like a drink.
When we got your our table 20 minutes late we ordered. Following an excessive wait we were informed starters would be a further 15-20 minutes and given some crisps to keep us going. 2 minutes later starters arrived.
The main course did not land on the table until 9:30 and to be honest we were past caring. We had gone beyond hunger and really couldn’t be bothered to finish the meal which was ok. Having complained to the manager we were offered a complimentary desert or drink.
The waitress was trying her best and it’s no reflection on her but they were either overbooked or understaffed in the kitchen or both.
The restaurant was recommended by our hotel. Another party next to us who were having issues stated they come at least 2-3 times a year and it is usually very good but they said that that evening was well below their usual standard. With a lot of competition around I don’t feel inclined to take a second chance on the place.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here on February 2. As suggested by the restaurant, we arrived early for cocktails. They have a beautiful indoor rum bar, but we elected the outdoor bar, on the side of the dining deck where we could hear and see the surf. Excellent bartender!! We then went to our table, on the deck overlooking the surf just a few yards away. The dining area is beautiful, with cool lights and unobtrusive music. The only thing keeping us from giving L&C 5 stars was our waiter, who was pleasant but really couldn't described the dishes and was not able to advise us on how best to choose our dinner from their selection of shareables (appetizers and small plates) and mains. Left to our own, we decided to share a few small plates and 1 main. Having made our own decision, our waiter was then helpful in organizing the order they should come: Magic Mushroom (great!) and Spicy Mezcal Shrimp ‘Ceviche’ (good, but really not spicy) as a first course, then serving the Pork Bits appetizer (these are great and come in a deliciously large serving!!!) with Curry (really good, including the moist chicken add-on we chose). Everything was appealingly plated, and there was a welcome leisurely pace to our meal. The concept for their food is sea/farm to table using at least 90% local ingredients, and they really put them to good use. Just know that parking in the area is not easy, so leave a little time to find a spot.

We saw Sophie Michell on Saturday Kitchen and she spoke about Local & Co and what it was all about. We decided to visit with our family on our holiday and it didn't disappoint. We arrived early for drinks and the staff were fantastic. The decor was very much to our taste.
The menus are small, which I like, and there was plenty of choices. We had cerviche, fish tacos, homemade crisps, burgers and ribs and every dish was delicious.
Total bill for 6 of us including 2 courses, cocktails and wine was less than £400, so very good value for money. I would definitely recommend to our friends and will be going back when we return to Barbados.

No idea why this restaurant has a trip advisor recommendation, it’s not very good. I had the burger as I thought the service was a bit hit and miss to start with re drinks and so I would play it safe. A mistake as the burger was ok but a bit dry and boring and the chips were burnt. My wife ordered a fish salad, told later the fish that’s she likes was no longer available and could she have the chicken. A very boring salad came with dog ends of a chicken. Will not be returning to this establishment

Ambience and decor is pleasant as is the view. However, the bespectacled male supervisor is rude and has no manners and no customer service training. Young waitress was excellent. The food so-so. The steak was swimming in grease and cooked not as ordered. Expensive too and they use the daily menu on the blackboard to overcharge and say "oh the prices change daily and the prices you see today were yesterday's prices'. Needless to say- this was the first and last visit to this place for all four of us!

Sorry you didn’t enjoy your meal. The steaks are charged by the lb and that price hasn’t changed since we opened. So if it was a higher price, it was due to the steak being larger. Its all exclusively aged for us by Oink and Moo butchers from Peg Farm and is 100 percent Bajan. The ‘grease’ is the smoked bone marrow butter. Thanks for the feedback!

Six of us had a wonderful Boozy day on the loungers enjoying the beautiful bay. Though we had no interest in having food the server continued to try to upsell and offer us munchies that would compliment our day. Llamon took care of us with flair and a fun attitude and when he had to end his shift the hand over to Roland was professional and well timed. Roland then took excellent care of the end of our day. Thank you for a memorable day Local team. 3 of the guests were first timers and the two that frequent the island returned one week later they enjoyed it so much.
