Great Portuguese restaurant, cheap food, tasty, wide choice of menu, nice wine. We went for lunch (6 of us). A bit off the beaten track so nice to find as there are aren't many options in the area Top tip, order the full rather than...half option as it's only a couple of euros more and you can take it home! Eat in or takeaway and excellent value/tasty foodMore

Very very rude employees. I arrive at the restaurant and order a table for 8, we were 4 até the time, my friends were just behind me... They felt like insulted with this situation... My family felt in danger, a police case. Run away from...this place.More

All right. You want food that’s Portugal typical? Paper sheets on the table, massive amounts of food? One of the best food experience you’ve ever had ( and I’m picky and very critical)? Go to this restaurant. Very good service. The chief came out to...our table to specifically ask one of our friends who is vegetarian what she could put into her food. And than the food came. I N C R E D I B E L! If you’re close by, or far away, you must visit this place!More

Tried to book but was told it was first come, first served, so we arrived at 19:30 half an hour after it opened, and good was that because it filled up really fast, although it was only a Thursday night. The place is ”famous” for...leitão on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and most of the diners were chugging in on nice looking pieces of suckling pig. But since we are ”snobs” from the north only leitão from Mealhada will do, so we ordered Choco frito, Entremeada, Entrecosto and Perca, which were all delicious. Nice place and I’ll go back for sure. The only negative was that they had Estrela de Galcia in the pumps, which gives a sub-standard pre-dinner caneca. Sagres please!More

Service and food were all very nice! We dropped in just 5 min. before closing and at covid times but the staff was kind and invited us to sit down inside the restaurant. Portions are huge: we ordered soup + main course for both of...us but one main course would have been enough for two. The chef's offer, the daily soup and the cattlefish were all really tasty! +they have baby chair for the little ones.More

Lucky me to arrive on a Sunday for an early diner as that is one of the days they serve piglet. Fantastic! As I know the portions here in Portugal are generous, I ordered a small portion, which still was good enough to only leave...a little space for a dessert. I asked for some Portugese specialty and was served some kind of pastry with among other ingredients almonds. Also out of this world. The menu is also in English and the waiter was fluent in it. Later I found out that on the list of best restaurants they were # 2. I happened to have had dinner in October at # 1. Also very, very good, but for my next dinner my choice would be A Cascalheira.More

We only tried picanha (sirloin cap), but the quality was great. It came with all the traditional brazilian side dishes (rice, fries, fruit, mandioca, farofa, black beans) and portions were very generous. They also had a nice selection of homemade desserts from which I’d recommend...trying “molotov”, a sort of egg white pudding topped with a rich caramel sauce. Prices are fair and service is good.More

When it comes to portions Cascalheira wins! The portion they serve are very generous! You need to make sure you are hungry or just share your portion! They have everyday different options meat and fish. I only eat fish, and I can tell you all...I've eat there was just fantastic and absolutely delicious! It's a traditional cuisine, and all the flavours from Alentejo are present in their food! And they make my favourite carob mousse in the world!More

A very popular place with the locals which is always a good sign. Good, hearty food & great value. Sunday evenings are really busy so probably best to book or go early.

An above average place where you can find decent fish and meat. Quite a cozy and warm atmosphere, with a real local feel to it. I recommend this place

The staff were friendly despite it being a busy day and the food was phenomenal. I went on a Sunday with a friend and we were both quite impressed with the suckling pig.

My family and I went to have dinner at cascalheira. The food was good although the steak was a bit dry. The vegetable soup and the fried squid were very good. The staff was friendly but the service was very slow (Ok we are in...Alentejo and the staff t-shirts all had slogans to get relaxed and take it easy :)) personally I've found the place a bit noisy. the speciality is the suckling pig but we didn't taste it.More

I realised when visiting this restaurant that I have never tasted suckling pig before - it was absolutely delicious! Simply served with hand made potato crisps and salad, this meal was one of the tastiest I had on holiday in Portugal. Ate here as part...of a weeks riding holiday with Raides Vicentinos - Riding holidays in Portugal which I can well recommend.More
