Lady that booked my table was great helpful and even called to inform me they would have to move me. Food was ok. Unfortunately when ordering food we were served by a chap with long hair and a ponytail who ruined the visit by being...rude whilst ordering. Wasn't pleasant and put a dampener on the visit a shameMore

I visited here recently with a friend. We were looking for somewhere outdoors that still followed COVID protocols (since the legal removal of restrictions). The Garden Bar was a great choice. We had pre-booked and staff were very helpful when booking. We had an outside...table but it was very windy, so were advised to sit in one of the outside booths to shield us from wind, so a good choice. Although it was appreciated that staff said we were welcome to sit on a picnic table (which is more distanced) if we preferred. We had visited on a Wednesday (pub is usually closed on Monday and Tuesday) and it was fairly quiet, but not empty and still had a nice atmosphere. The big garden is a real selling point here and still had other guests despite the windy weather. Staff were very friendly and the COVID safety measures were kept in place with staff wearing masks and most guests respecting the advice to wear masks when walking around the pub, using the bathroom or ordering at the bar. As for the food and drink, I had an Aperol Spritz cocktail which was lovely, some spirits and mixers (a good range to choose from) and a fish burger. The fish burger was very tasty although I did consider the price point to be expensive for a pub. I also would have preferred chunkier chips to the thin fries, but that's just my personal taste. Overall, the outdoor space of this pub is a real highlight (hence the pub's name). It is on the higher end of pub prices so expect to pay more than you would at a chain, for example, but is on par with many other independents in Brighton & Hove. I look forward to visiting again when the weather is warmer and I can fully enjoy their outdoor space!More

Booked this venue for my sisters hen do and so glad I did! The staff were so friendly and proactive from start to finish. They were extremely helpful and after meeting face to face to discuss different types of menus to cater for up to...20 people I know this venue was a very good choice. The food was amazing! Thank you for all your help and for making my sisters hen do the best possible! Many thanksMore

It's so great to see this wonderful pub getting busier and busier and finally getting the recognition they deserve. We've been visiting frequently for many years and were absolutely gutted when it closed for the majority of 2020 so we're thrilled it's back and thriving....The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and go out of their way to accommodate you and make you feel at home. The food is also fantastic - easily one of the best roasts in the Brighton/Hove area, they also offer a smaller roast for those with smaller appetites (or suffering a hangover) which is a major bonus. Although it's tucked away a little between Hove and Portslade, it's definitely worth the trip, especially in sunshine as they boast a massive pub garden (with booths also available). Would absolutely recommend! Thank you GBH for always making us feel welcome and providing such a great service, food and drinks!More

Came here for lunch on the Saturday England going to be playing Ukraine and expected it to be busy, so took an early 1230 slot. The beer garden itself is very pleasant with many tables, umbrellas , and very clean. Arrived a bit early, but...we’re able to choose a table outside, and thankfully the rain held off. Good selection of food and drinks, reasonably priced. Service was good, if not a bit slow. The fish and chips were average, the falafel salad was ok. On the whole, an enjoyable lunch, have had better, but haven’t we all.More

Thank you for your review, as you can imagine on days with England games, both the front of house and kitchen staff are extremely busy so we apologise that the service was slower and the food was not quite as expected. We hope you give...More

Visited as a group of 6, but needed to sit outside due to tier 2 restrictions for some of the party. The three ladies that served us were really helpful, even though we were the only people sat outside on a rainy day and they...had to go up and down the steps in the garden several times to bring our order. We sat in a covered heated booth, which was very welcome when faced with the alternative of fish and chips on a wet and windy seafront in October. The only option on the Sunday menu was roast dinners, but they were really good and we were all very happy with our choices. Puddings were good value and tasty too. When we went through the pub it was very Covid-safe. Would definitely recommend, whether eating inside or out.More

The outdoor heated booths are a great place to meet up with friends from different households. Even though we are legally allowed to sit inside in groups of up to six, we felt we would be too close to each other and felt safer being...outside. This pub has several covered outdoor seating areas that have a light and heater and we were able to reserve one. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was great. We will definitely be backMore

Can’t recommend this pub highly enough for Sunday roast !! The staff were very helpful and charming. The roast pork belly was truly the best roast I’ve had (and I’ve had a few!). The cabbage was lovely and the roast potatoes were crunchy and wonderful....Best of all, the gravy was homemade and really tasty and not that watery “jus” that you get served everywhere. It really was faultless and we will rush back. Thanks 🙏More

A lovely old looking pub but probably isn't as old as it appears. Good choice of draft and spirits. The staff are really excellent especially our waitress Grace. She was very attentive but not annoying, happy and polite, you could tell she was smiling all...the time even with her mask on. The covid measures are excellent, tables well spaced, cleaned regularly and the garden area is the biggest in Hove so lots of space. I had the burger which was amazing very thick patty not at all fatty. Wife had the fish and chips which was excellent and so large she couldn't finish it. On the whole, you gotta eat here, or even if you just pop in for a drink it's well worth it (20% off food at the time of my visit)More

Yes, the front door and internal areas are wheelchair accessible. The rear garden has a flight of steps but access can be arranged through a side entrance.
