It was ok and I've certainly eaten worse food. I did hear that there are real staff shortages in the area which might explain things a bit. Staff that did serve us were really friendly. Clearly didn't know much about drinks menu and served a...martini in a completely weird glass. Tapas food OK but really had no Spanish feel to the restaurant so interesting choice of food genre.More

The food we had here was really nice, the staff were freindly, enjoyed the experience here, the menu was selective and was local produce from the region. .

Had a fleeting over night stay at pepper’s Bluewater thought better use the restaurant, wasn’t disappointed I had the rib eye my wife had salmon. Both were delicious! Was warned about portion size but both were ample, we shared a ciabatta starter and the food...again was filling and delicious. Thank youMore

We ate here as part of a small group. The people were pleasant but the food and organisation was very disappointing unfortunately. It seemed the kitchen focus was very much on the takeaway side of the business that night. For $59 per head for their...“gourmet”BBQ buffet it fell well short.More

With mains north of $40 each, you would expect some high end food. Instead I would say its just 'very good' and therefore over priced for what you get. The restaurant surroundings are great with views over its own lake to Lake Tekapo and the...mountains beyond. The waitresses were very good and attentive, but then some of the negatives creep in. The beer and wine list choice is small and poor. My wife's lamb dish was overcooked and little tough even though it was very tasty. My steak was small. The cheesecake looked like it had been bought from the local dairy. Overall the food was tasty, but I just cannot live with paying such high prices for what we received.More

We were staying in the hotel and it was my sister in laws birthday so wanted to have a nice meal. I had told the staff when booking it was her birthday. We had a good table with a nice view but that was about...the nicest thing of the night. The service was slow we all ordered the lamb which was $46 and it was terrible. If you are going to make people pay $46 for a main you need to make sure you serve a $46 meal. The lamb even cooked medium rare was hard to cut and chewy and the veggies were raw. We ordered dessert and my chocolate pudding with hot chocolate sauce was cold and both looked like they were brought in. Not one thing was said by the staff about my sister-in-laws birthday even though I saw it was noted next to our booking when we arrived in the restaurant. There was a real lack of care by the staff. We did complain and the staff did refund part of our meal which I was pleased about as the mains were not worth $46.More

COVID has impacted Lake Tekapo which is no longer brimming with life as it used to be and many eateries haven't survived. But Rakinui at Peppers continues to service superb food in a relaxed but classy atmosphere. Be sure to book.

The restaurant was understaffed, so table service was slow. Had to ask for the drinks menu a couple of times. It was also a set menu which we weren’t told about when we booked, which was a bit disappointing after looking at the menu online....A big bonus was the food was well presented and very tasty. Staff were friendly, but clearly needed one more person on the floor. Understandably could be due to COVID cuts though.More

I agree with the other reviewers - the people operating this restaurant are struggling. We arrived after a long drive at about 7:30pm. They were clearly disorganised with one server moving frantically and a supervisor not appearing to do anything other than add to her...stress by ordering her around. With several tables vacant he told us they were busy and to come back in 30 minutes. We didn’t. We did return though for breakfast. With more than half the restaurant vacant they insisted on putting us at a table in the crowded Hal of the restaurant where the seats were so close together you couldn’t get in or out without bumping the person at the table next to you. It was all very uncomfortable and to add insult to injury, I had to wait as a server helped herself to breakfast while tables remained uncleared.More
