In de groene wandeling is a restaurant frequented by locals. Proof that it is a good place for dinner. Location is also very nice.
Dear EconoVision Many thanks for your visit and your review ! We are happy reading that you enjoyed our local dishes for dinner and our location.. We look forward seeing you again soon ! Best regards, Katie & team
I had pre-booked this restaurant, selecting it for several reasons: previous reviews; location about 30 min from our hotel in Beernem; open on Sunday (you'd be amazed how many weren't); an alluring menu; and at a cost that didn't break the bank. From the moment...we arrived we were treated as honoured guests and shown to a corner table. It's a popular place and our hostess confessed that it was as close to "a quiet table to celebrate my wife's birthday" as they could get. It was fine: our neighbours were enjoying quiet conversation and no-one intruded on us. We chose the Wildpalet #Inspiration set menu. With the exception of the soup which, while well executed did not match with the other courses, the food was excellent: well cooked, well presented, well explained and absolutely delicious. We elected to add on the wine pairing, both of which went exceedingly well with the corresponding course and were generous in replenishment. My wife's dessert arrived with a suitable birthday embellishment and staff and customers were generous in their best wishes. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are trying to find an excuse to visit again sooner rather than later.More

Today's meal marked the third time in as many years that I have eaten at In De Groene Wandling (still can't pronounce it right and probably never will...my tongue doesn't move in Dutch). It has never disappointed. Coming one evening after a lacking and even...boring meal in a one star Michelin restaurant in Knokke, I really appreciate the quality of the food and the service and can only give my highest endorsement if you ever find yourself in this very literal backwater of Belgium. Staying in Knokke makes you believe enough money can buy anything (my greatest fear while staying there...getting run over by a Ferrari, Bentley or any one of hundreds of black, Porsche SUVs that are as ubiquitous as dented yellow cabs in NYC). Not so when it comes to restaurants. Our meal the night before Wandling began with promise at a place with an Italian name rhyming with "Witchio." It quickly devolved into harried service and decent but hardly one star food. Wandling, on the other hand, offered better food, better service and a price tag one-third that of the place the Michelin folks seem to prefer. My point...I'll take a restaurant that seems satisfied by just satisfying its customers over a place that wants to impress for the sake of impressing. Do not miss the Zeebrugge fish soup. A Belgian take on Boullibaise, the soup was notable for the freshness of the seafood that ensured each individual bivalve, mollusk and whatever other critters were in it could be tasted separately instead of just melding into a mess of fishiness. Two of the other three diners with me ordered it as well and wholly concur this soup is a must-have. Half of our table (including me) are big fans of eel and I've learned Belgium is the place to get it. I went with the cream sauce while another had the Provencal. I couldn't fault either and the quality of the eel was top-shelf...sweet, fatty and caramelized just enough before it went into the sauce. A long time ago, some adventuresome cave person said "I'm hungry enough to eat this nasty looking thing" and managed to survive for another day. Someone in his or her line of descent later decided that cream could transform this hideous creature into a delicacy and I will be forever thankful. In past visits to Wandling, I've also had the eel with green herbs..a very different but no less satisfying experience. Even if you are new to eel or a bit squeamish, it would be a mistake not to give this restaurant's version a try. Each of my three meals at Wandling have also come with quality, down-to-earth service. The staff doesn't need to impress to earn or to preserve a star...it reminded me of the fantastic, homey, and unobtrusive service we used to get at the greasy spoon diner in our hometown where I spent countless hours studying for the bar exam without ever having to wonder if my coffee cup needed to be refilled. At Wandling, when we needed something, the server was there...when we didn't, he wasn't. Not much on Western Europe geography, I know Knokke, Bruges and how to call a car to get us to the airport for the trip home. Damme seems to be a small hamlet without any real distinguishing features other than the canal on which this gem of a restaurant sits. If you can dodge the Ferraris making a beeline to the coast, make a point of stopping here for what will likely be a terrific meal.More
We went to this place on the way back from a nice day at the beach. As it was recommended we thought we will have a very nice meal. But it wasn't good at all. Everything seemed to be out of the box. The fish...was too fatty, the French fries too. Mayo was served in a plastic wrap. The salad was old and tasteless. For the price we had expected more.More

Very nice restaurant. Cosy interior, very friendly owners. The have a menu for 22 euros per person and it was very good: delicious soup, outstanding oven fish dish with mash potatoes and coffee or tea. Had a good meal for a very nice price. Will...come back again.More
We initially stayed for a week at the De Groene Wandling always having breakfast and occasionally having lunch and/or dinner. We enjoyed the location right next to 2 canals by hiking, bike riding, and/or picnicking every day. As we were visiting my mother who lived...nearby and her health took a turn for the worse, we at stayed for another week. We couldn't have been more pleased. The accommodations were wonderful and the food was excellent even by Belgian high standards as well as being reasonably priced. Also, the gracious and warm welcome by the owners made it a real pleasure to be there. We would highly recommend De Groene Wandling to anyone wishing to have a wonderful meal, to stay for a night, a weekend, or even several weeks.More
Dear Sir David N. Thank you for your visit, your warm engagement and your excellent rating. This kind of feedback motivates us all, with pride and joy !
We spent a night in this b&b in the middle of august and we were positively surprised. The room was very big, clean and confortable; with a very nice bathroom for just 30€ per night per person. The breakfast, included in the price, was generous...and good, with different types of croissant, marmellade and hams. We also had dinner in the hotel's resturant where we had cheese croquettes, a very good t-bone steak with french fries and a damme blanche for around 30 € per person. The only wakness is the location, a bit in the middle of nowhere, but if you have a car it could be also considered as a strenghtMore
