We read great reviews so we made reservations and put down the $200 deposit for our final evening in Santorini. After an amazing trip that I was hoping to end with the Athenian Restaurant. While the view was beautiful, the flaws were apparent in the management and efficiency of the restaurant making it difficult to enjoy the food. 1. While the sun was bright and very warm, the staff decided to close all the umbrellas indicating that there was a safety risk. All the guests began to overheat in the direct sunlight. We asked if we can move to a shady or spot, given that the restaurant was not yet full. However they indicated that they couldn’t and if we just waited 30 more minutes the sun would fall. This made the environment unpleasant and uncomfortable as we tried to stay cool. 2. We experienced a total of five servers. Not sure if they thought this was luxury service, because it ended up feeling more like a bunch of of students that didn’t know what they are doing. No one came to refill water or ask if I wanted more wine, which I did. But when the food came out all five stood around us not knowing whose meal belonged to who. Then they disappeared again until the next plate. 3. My son has a life threatening nut allergy. None of the staff seemed to remember that. Often putting items with nuts in front of him and then confusing his meal with another meal that had nuts. What topped it off was that they new we were getting frustrated with their service and they attempted to appease us with a free dessert which was packed with nuts, which they were about to put right before my son. When we said no and reminded them he had a bit allergy they attempted to put it in the middle of the table and we had to ask them to take it away completely. I’m the end, I really can’t rate the food. We were hot, thirsty, and frustrated by the experience at the restaurant. It put a damper on our final night in Santorini. In the end, they tried to offer an additional dessert, a drink, a reduction in the bill and even a physical gift. But in the end, the Athenian Restaurant was a bad choice that lead to a poor experience at a high price. I will not make that mistake again.

If you want a restaurant in Santorini that will test your pallet, this is the place for you. My wife and myself was told about Athenian and they did not disappoint. The food was first class, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, not like most top class restaurants were they are formal and like robots.. you are put at ease with the natural nature of all the staff. We had the 9 course meal. Some would say it is very expensive but you are sampling some of the most amazing dishes that will have you looking forward to the next dish.. every bite will give you a new mix of flavour that combine to an experience rather than just a meal. Highly recommended especially if you see yourself as a foodie.

We appreciate an evening of fine dining, but 4 1/2+ hours was a bit much. We really wanted to like the restaurant since we had such high hopes, but with each course things just got worse. The service was chaotic and disjointed. Courses weren’t explained, food was often cold, they had no idea who ordered what, and dishes were left on the table for multiple courses - not the end of the world for a lot of places, but it should be different here. Our server finally admitted they had significantly overbooked the restaurant that evening by accident. Something like 97 reservations when they should have had 60. The staff seemed overwhelmed and largely disinterested - very unusual to see anywhere in Greece. For what they charge (which would be fine if the experience matched the prices) they need to be much much better. We had meals that were way better throughout Greece at a fraction of the cost. Won’t ever be back and will never recommend.

What is not to like about Athenian House Restaurant in Santorini? The food is amazing- very creative dishes inspired by traditional Greek cuisine that are beautifully presented! It was definitely one of the top meals we enjoyed in Athens and the Cyclades. This isn’t a place for the faint hearted as the portions are generous for a tasting menu, but so delicious you don’t to get to the last bite of any of the dishes. The views are outstanding so be sure to book your meal to see the sunset To top all that, our waiter Daniel was very professional, did a great job explaining the dishes and was very attentive to our needs without being overbearing. In addition, he was very friendly which an all made for a great experience.

Very cute atmosphere- incredible views, especially at sunset, would definitely recommend. The food was delicious and we were full at the end. Also had some great drink options.I know some people mentioned. price- it is important to keep in mind this is a fine dining experience and well worth it if that is what you are hoping for. Also, everywhere "nice" in Santorini is pretty expensive to eat, so this is worth it given the experience of tasting creative dishes and the service you get. Also, I was cold at dinner and I think one of the waitresses noticed and she asked me if I wanted a blanket. I took it and I was so cozy the rest of dinner. That was pretty great for a restaurant to consider guests and all their needs. Waiters & waitresses are super attentive, and we especially want to thank and shout out Tolis for a very positive experience! He made sure we had a great dinner and even gave us some Greek spirits to try afterward which was very nice. :)

We dined at the Athenian House for my birthday celebration and it was the best meal we had whilst in Santorini. The view is stunning, the food experimental but it works and the service was wonderful. Daniel, our waiter, was lovely and handled the compliments my husband gave him very well and the sommelier who I did not catch the name of was knowledgeable and friendly. If we were to return we would however book to go at 8pm at the latest as beforehand it was too hot to enjoy the food really. Also though the sunset at 8.20, the magical red hue appears for 30 minutes after sunset so this is the ideal time to dine.

We went to The Athenian House for our 30th anniversary celebration because we heard the food was good and it had a nice view of the sunset. Wow. It did not disappoint! We ordered the Heritage Sampler which included smaller portions of various Greek dishes mostly centered around different seafood. My husband is not a big fan of seafood, but let me tell you, he ate every bite! It was absolutely delicious! The presentation was immaculate and everything tasted so clean and fresh. Reading from the menu, I was not sure I would like some of the items (Greek style ceviche?) but it was so good. The Aegean cod doughnut… amazing. The service was phenomenal as well. Every portion was timed perfectly by happy servers; they even indulged us by taking our picture. Even the background music was set at just the right volume so I could hear my husband, but not every other conversation. I’ve never noticed anything like that before! Now the sunset… we had a perfectly clear view, and it was spectacular! Enough said. Just a warning, the menu is pricey, but it is absolutely worth it. We would indulge ourselves again in a heartbeat!

Amazing sunset views, food was wonderful and they were very accommodating of my vegetarian dietary needs. Great ambiance and the signature cocktail I had was truly singular. Daniel really made the night special with his service.

We took the advice of a friend to try this restaurant, “view and food is breathtaking” he says. First the restaurant is so hard to find, it was like a maze and keeping the suspense alive. There were a lot of signs of restaurants, villas, suites on the wall but the restaurant that we needed to find. Even with google map, we got lost. Just like walking through the maze we got excited to finally find the restaurant, and as we sat, they offered us a bottled water, which tasted so good because we were thirsty, then came the big surprise, THE MENU, you have a choice of Discovery (135) Heritage (155) and Original (95 euros). Since we are a party of 3, we ordered 1 of each and ordered a bottle of local wine for 68 euros (which is a fraction of the price from the market). Presentation was ok, the bread was not warm and hard. The appetizer was subpar, it’s all about the presentation. The lamb chop was the tiniest I’ve ever seen. IT wasn’t a fine dining experience, in fact, it’s forgettable and nothing to rave about. For $500 dinner, I had way much better… I should’ve read the reviews before trying this restaurant..

Mind blowing! Words can't describe the unique and delicious food and the breathtakingly beautiful sunset. It is 5+ course meal so come hungry! Bring your wallet, it doesn't say on the website but it is about 150-185 euro per person set menu and they do not let you break it up. Also take into consideration drinks and of course the 8Euro bottle of water. Plan to arrive early because parking and and actually finding it in the sea of white caves takes extra time. It was completely worth it and I would do it again! The service was outstanding! Daniel was perfection!

I’m not one to write extremely negative reviews but in the hope that I may spare somebody a hefty bill and a wasted night of their holiday I am going to have to do so. I would just like to add that I absolutely do not believe in the legitimacy of the 2,3,4 or 5* ratings this restaurant has received. The menu looked promising and at €95 per person for the discovery menu I was hopeful that this would be an experience myself and my husband wouldn’t forget. It was certainly that, but not for the reasons we had hoped! The views are absolutely stunning, we can’t deny this… however this is the only positive comment we can make about Athenian house. The food is extremely bland, tasteless and basic to say the least and leaves you dissatisfied and hungry. Even the breads were stale. The fava bean purée was like tasteless baby food and I don’t know why 2 courses back to back had zucchini which was again boring! The food is no way worth €95 per person! I’d be angry at €25 euros for the meal we had to be honest. The focus is definitely on presentation rather than taste. This is our 3rd time to santorini so we have ate out at a lot of restaurants and this is the first bad one we have been to. The atmosphere was very weird, the staff were robotic and there were no pleasantries exchanged that made you feel welcomed to the restaurant. Each course was brought out so quick you hardly had time to catch your breath in between courses. Another mood killer was the Greek classical music blaring throughout the meal which was really over-bearing! When leaving we were given a key ring with a shoe on it, everyone in there was given one when paying. I can only imagine this was to try and convince us we had actually had a really good time. The waitresses that handed this gift to every female in the restaurant said the same thing ‘this is a gift for the lady’ … again robotic and not personable at all. We pre-paid €100 for this meal but honestly if you have done the same don’t waste another €150 euros and an hour of your holiday here because it was really disappointing. Luckily up to yet we have had the best holiday of our lives so we laughed off this mis-hap. But if by writing this review the restaurant can make some improvements or we can warn somebody off in the meantime until the restaurant improves then it’s worth my time!

Amazing Food, Service and Experience! A Santorini Must! We opted for the middle menu called the discovery menu priced at €120 per person. Our favourite part of the menu was the Meze, the waitress explained which we should start and end with and it was all amazing. The twist on the Baklava was also great and we were both full at the end of the meal Each course was well thought out and was a true Michelin star experience. The view is also incredible over the Caldera, we booked a sunset view as it was our honeymoon and really wanted a true oh special experience. Which it hands down was amazing! The view was incredible and really adds to the luxury of this restaurant. The owner at the end came out to shake our hand and it really added to the experience, he even wrote down another restaurant in Oia he recommended where his chef had recently moved to. We also tried the restaurant tonight and passed on his note to the chef, the food was incredible thank you for the recommendation.

The view lived up to the hype. That isn’t much redemption: it’s the same view at every other restaurant on the same slope in Imerovigli. The food was truly awful. After ordering. 5 course meal each, my wife and I found 1 dish out of 10 we thought was mediocre at best. I won’t waste too much time detailing it, but one course was rubbery overcooked lobster with pieces of shell complimented with undercooked rice and a sauce that tasted like cheap lemonade. Another was a desert so overpowered with rose water that you taste nothing else. To top it off, the service was terrible as well. Our server would interrupt our courses seemingly every 10 minutes to ask if we were done when we clearly had food on our plates. At a €300+ price point, this experience was unforgivable. Steer clear!

If you're looking for a spot for an ocassion whilst you're in santorini then I'd definitely recommend the athenian house. The food was lovely, the service was great and the cocktails tasted amazing! Brilliant views over the caldera at sunset. It also offers a vegan option for the tasting menu which was great for me. Daniel was very attentive and helpful and even treated us to few after dinner shots! My only negative is that the vegan option is the same price (155 euros for 5 course tasting menu) however, some of it was just vegetarian and they had removed the cheese. The only vegan bread option to start was basically a burger bun (which you wouldn't expect for the price) and the menu says the chocolate cake is vegan but its not so panna cotta is the vegan option. Other than that it was a lovely experience!

Let’s start with the fact that the restaurant is extremely hard to find and reach. After having walked up and down stairs and back and forth around the area where there are absolutely no directions at all we finally found the restaurant. The weather wasn’t on our side as we literally froze the whole dinner and it was so windy it was hard to enjoy a relaxed and nice meal. We obviously got there 15 minutes late as it was impossible to find, and since the first moment we felt extremely rushed by the staff, felt like they wanted us out of there as soon as possibile. We had paid a €250 deposit for 5 people and were forced to go with one of the tasting menus, the cheapest one was €95 per person. The food did not meet our expectations at all, I have to say it was actually very disappointing. We ended up spending €500 just for the food and water which is definitely overpriced for what was offered. We ate in less than 30 minutes, and left within 40 minutes of getting there. We will definitely not be recommending to family and friends.
