This was the best “fancy” dinner of our stay in Santorini. Fine dining service and fantastic, innovative food in the village of Imerovigli. The patio and interior are simply and beautifully decorated. We were there after dark, but it looked as though the sunset view...must be just perfect. Even the music selection was well suited to the surroundings, and helped to set the mood of our meal. Three tasting menus are offered. We chose the Origins option, which is plant-based. (We’d had an enormous, late lunch at Metaxi Mas and didn’t think we had room for a heavier meal.) The meal began with a couple of different delicious breads and spreads, and a top quality olive oil, as well as a bowl of their house made hummus. We then enjoyed three courses of appetizers that had so many elements and flavors, we could have eaten each one of them as complete meal. But then we chose one of each of the entrees – I had the Dolma, which was kind of an homage to the traditional dolmas we all know and love, but with a few interesting twists! My husband had the pasta. Being of Italian heritage, I’m always intrigued by pasta dishes from other cultures. so I had to try it myself. Well, this dish was as good as any pasta I’ve ever had, anywhere! In fact, if we ever get to return to Athenian house, it would probably be one of the two dishes I’d most be looking forward to eating again. The other would definitely be the baklava, which is their signature dessert. Baklava is one of my very favorite desserts, so when the owner warned that it would not be what I’d expect, I was initially disappointed. But then she said it was made with chocolate and peanut buttter… I didn’t think there was anything that could be done to improve on baklava, but let me tell you – they have elevated this dish to a heavenly level. It’s not to be missed!!
To top our already perfect meal off, we were served the most delightful shots of a house made cucumber liqueur. I’ve been on a mission to find something similar since we left Santorini, but it seems it doesn’t exist anywhere but Athenian House. I guess we’ll just have to go back for more!More
