Looking at pictures, wine list and reviews made me have some expectations. Front desk staff are also waiters in this restaurant which is also a hotel. Entering the restaurant I found a bottle of 2012 Victorino, one of best Toro wines, standing on a shelf...in this part of the restaurant were the wines are kept. The temperatures were 25 degrees (my guess). Neither standing bottles or 25 degrees are ideal condition for cellaring wines - what a pity and lack of respect for good wine. Although I was hooked on the Victorino (53€, 17 % more expensive than I have had it several places) I went for a bottle of 2012 Clio from Jumilla (44€, 10 % more expensive than I have had it several places). Two of of three waiters had a ok level of english. None of the waiters appeared to have experience with handling good wines. Highlight of the evening was the lasagne. It was good, but unfortunately cold inside,,, The risotto (with meat) lacked seasoning. With a lot of salt and peber it became eatable but lacked flavor and concentration from the beginning, The pork cheeks were disappointing (I could use much stronger language). Very hard as they had been cooked with too high temperature. If slow cooked at low temperature the meat becomes soft, juicy and tender and almost falling apart. The local goat cheese was surprisingly strong for a cheese that had only been matured for three month. That is not a criticism, just my observation. The cafe solo was ok. Honestly I was a disappointed. Earlier today, at lunch, I had the menu degustation at restaurant Jesus Carrion, where I had a lot of good food. I rated it 4*. The quality level toningh at Essentia were way below... So 3 1/2* is a fair verdict.More

Dear Customer, First of all thank your comment. We are very disgusted with their perception, as we try to improve every day and that our customers leave satisfied. The theme of wine is a subject to improve in our team, although we try every day....More

We ate here on our first night in Aracena after referring to the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous and very well presented. Possibly the only thing to which would have given it a 5 star rating would have...been an improvement on the seating and atmosphere. It felt a little basic and not so inviting. Nevertheless a great place to eat in Aracena.More

We only booked an hour before arrival, but the welcome was excellent. Very modern and slightly quirky design. If it worries you to walk over a glass bridge to the pool, or to have an internal bedroom, don’t go, but there are many other features...to recommend this place. The staff were friendly and helpful especially the waiter at dinner, the food was delightful and the bed comfortable.More

We stayed at hotel convento Aracena but we ate here 3 times. We loved it. Tapas with a twist. We choose to eat in the gastrobar. You will get there when you walk passed the receptiondesk. It’s easy to find. I think we tried everything...on the tapasmenu. The only thing we didn’t really like was the risotto. But who cares if you have so much great alternatives. I would like to get the recipe of the lasagne. We shared every tapa but that one I wanted to keep for myself :) High quality food for great prices.More

We have been dining there with my wife this evening. I am still wondering how you get so good meals for a so cheap price.... we took almost all tapas in the menu for 3 or 4 euros each .... it was very very tasty....The risotto with parmesan, The pulpo salad, the boletus mousse, the lasagne al pesto, the codfish salad with mango and advocado... The only issue is to eat everything. Not to be missed if you are in andalusia. One of the pearl in Belotta jamon region.More

We have eaten all over the world including the so called best restaurant in the world ( read review of Black Swan in Oldstead). Tonight we just had an Octopus, potato and pequillo pepper salad with paprika mayonnaise ( enough for two) Cubes of Salt...Cod with a seville style thick Orange marmalade. Gratin of Scallops Mini langoustine burger with a tomato & smoked garlic salsa Fillet of pork with cream & garlic sauce, a bottle of White wine , 3 beers and a sublime Chocolate brownie with coconut cream and a yogurt ice cream. €40 !!! The tastes, service and setting are funky and welcoming, and our server was outstanding. We tried our Spanish and she tried English and we got on excellently. If you could award 10 stars we would. Nowhere in England can get near this place, worth the effort to get here.More

Despite the language barrier the service was very friendly and helpful. The carpaccio was excellent, the main course absolutely delicious. It was a very pleasant evening.

We stopped in for lunch after visiting the Gruta. The tapas were interesting and good, with the risotto and the solomillo exceptional. Cute ambiance and good service too. Perfect lunch!!

We were the only patrons but it was a Monday. Great lunch and far too much to eat. Nice olives and bread. Interesting salmorejo cream amuse bouche. Cod in a mango and sun dried tomato salad. Lovely roast vegetables. Flavourful morcilla, chorizo, jamon, potato and...egg dish. Good squid. Enormous cheese plate much of which was doggy bagged. Washed down with nice Verdejo. €98. Service was slightly patchy but good when there was someone there.More
