So Malasalas are airy Portuguese donoughts filled or infilled.
Leonard’s is a must visit when we visit Oahu, it on our must do list and we get our fixed. They taste best fresh okay after a day, but preferably same day.
The location has a itty bitty parking lot, can be very busy so you may wait in line to order, then wait for your order to be freshly present to you in their box.
They do have a food truck but it can be busy too.
They have an array of flavors and all are delicious, yes we have tried them all and we enjoyed every single one.

Not much parking but worth the short wait for a spot to open up. The place does not have inside seating and there was only two benches out front to sit on so plan to take and eat elsewhere. Especially since parking is limited. The original malasada was the best! We also tried the macadamia and dobash. Half of the filling would have been fine with me. Bring some wet wipes to clean up your deliciously sugary fingers. The service was not friendly but trying to be efficient as there was a line out the door. Observe the people ordering in front of you and you can easily figure it out. The service does not suffer fools gladly.

We stopped here at the start of a day trip around Oahu for malasadas and coffee. There were no (legal) parking spaces in the miniscule lot or on nearby streets, so one of us waited in the car while the rest of us went in for malasadas and coffee. There was a long line, but the cashiers were friendly and patient. The malasadas are made to order, so you'll have to wait for them, and when you first get them they're too hot to eat. But they're sooo good! Try the macadamia nut filling. Other pastries are also very good.

If you only visit one bakery in the world, if you only eat sweets at one place in the world, make it Leonard’s. They serve malasadas, which are Portuguese Donuts (I think) filled with custard, fruit and other fillings. They are fantastic! Try and go when it’s not too crowded (early or later) as their parking lot is little and challenging to navigate. You can always walk there from the Waikiki Hotels but if you do, I’d advise either eating them there or buying one of their insulated bags to take with you. While they’re always great, they’re better hot or warm. Allow for thirty minutes in case they are busy. They’re working hard to keep the crowds moving but so many people love this place it’s just busy. In retrospect, I’d buy half a dozen for the plane ride home. You’ll be the envy of your fellow passengers.

Small parking lot but we did get in. Long line but it went fast and was organized well. We went because of all the rave reviews. Was glad we did but I wouldn’t come again. They are just doughy donuts and aren’t really any better than the standard donuts you can get at any bakery.
I’d take a New Orleans beignet over these any day. Plus would it kill them to put a few more benches out front?

Leonard's Bakery has the best malasadas! Best when eaten hot, soft, sweet and sugary! If you don't have sugar on your shirt, then you didn't eat it right!!!
Leonard's made them better by offering malasada puffs -- filled with cream, chocolate, coconut, orange dream. My favorite is the custard filled. These weren't around when I grew up, nice update.
Try to get there everytime I go home.

There will always be a line but not to worry, it is worth waiting for the variety of freshly made malasadas you can choose from. Best to come with a few people so that you can share and try all the fillings. My favorite is haupia (coconut ) - yum! Actually you may not want to share that one! Parking can be difficult so you may have to drop people off to stand in line and look around. Eat them right away when they are at their best. Bringing wipees will help with the sticky fingers.

Opened in 1952, Leonard’s Bakery is considered to be a Honolulu institution. Located off the beaten track, it is something that tourists make the trek AND lineup to taste one of these light and fluffy delicacies. The lineup wasn’t too bad - at least it moves - but be prepared to lineup twice, first to order the malasadas then to pick them up as they are distributed piping hot from the kitchen. Boy, is it worth it! We tried a traditional one with cinnamon and one stuffed with coconut (haupia). Both are delicious!

Ok so I must admit, when we did the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot last year, they gave a Leonard's malasada to every finisher and it was the first time I tried it and thought it was like a decent donut. On this trip, we actually drove to the physical location (twice in fact) and picked them up fresh. It was a totally different experience. You go to the window and place your order and within minutes, you get nice, fresh, hot, tasty malasadas. In 2 trips, we tried the lilikoi, the haupia, the malasada flavor of the month, li hing, macadamia and original. 6 in 2 trips was nothing as we routinely saw couples order a dozen and eat them in the parking lot. Parking lot is free and had ample room. Malasadas are about 1 dollar and change each. It's a classic must do for us tourists but it also had many locals, as well.

So so good. Don’t be scared off if there is a line it does go by quick since the malasadas are made fresh upon order. Malasadas are deep fried doughnut. They have some with regular sugar or cinnamon or have some that are filled. I like the original sugar ones. Order at the counter, they give you a number and then pick up your delicious treat when your number is called. There’s seats outside and you can see people either waiting for their order or opening their bag or box to eat it with no time to spare.

We were lucky that the line was just outside the door when we arrived. Even at that we waited at least 30 minutes because they are made to order - which is how they are warm when served. We had the original, a strawberry, a custard and a macadamia custard. Our favorite was the macadamia nut custard, its creamy with bits of the nuts. Second was the original third was the strawberry. Be aware that the strawberry is a flavored custard not just strawberry filling like other places. What makes these different is the light and very fluffy donut dough. I think there's more egg in the dough. They are worth the wait.

This place was recommended a must visit during our trip. There was a long line when we arrived and parking was a nightmare. When we finally get into the bakery, it was very crowded and I feel it did not have a variety I was expecting; very few selection on donuts, if any. The malasadas we did order were oily and not flavorful. Very disappointing.

Leonard’s is a must. I have been going here for years. The line is a bit confusing since they don’t have a very well marked place for people to wait for their orders, but we got in quick and got our malasadas. (Malasadas are these amazing light fluffy Portuguese donuts) The original and cinnamon are my favorite. I did try the chocolate one and coconut one today and I think there was a bit too much filling. Go with the OG and you’ll be super happy. Make sure to eat them while they are warm! Didn’t manage to take a picture since I ate it before I had a chance lol

Difficult to overhype this place. If you’re disappointed in these warm, sugary, oozing-with-goodness doughnuts, I honestly don’t know how to help you.
Flavors tried: original, original custard, guava, macadamia nut, pumpkin
I highly suggest the variety with fillings as the original one is pretty much just eating the outside of the filled doughnuts.
Macadamia nut was the favorite of the group but they were all delicious.
Tips: Of the multiple times we drove by this place, seemed like the line was shorter earlier in the day. We arrived at 7:15 and waited ten minutes from lining up to order to getting our precious pink box of goodness.
Eat them fresh and hot for maximum taste but if they go cold, warm them up to restore that crispy outside. Took a box on the plane and the next day, they were just as good after 5 minutes in a toaster oven!
At less than $2 each, get one of each flavor to taste the rainbow. Take some home, be the envy of the airport as you lug a box home.

Delicious malasadas covered in sugar and cinnamon sugar, and malasada puffs generously filled with various flavoured creams like custard, guava, strawberry, coconut, chocolate and macademia. I especially liked the puffs filled with strawberry and custard! They were all made-to-order and came out of the kitchen piping hot. Totally worth the 30-45 minute waits!
