I had a short walk to find a popular breakfast place, La Panaderia, which was nearby where I was staying, at the Gunter Hotel. Upon getting closer, I saw a long line up, there were 12 people outside and another 20 people in line inside. The service by the staff at La Panaderia was friendly. I ordered a turnover ($2.50), decaf coffee ($3.95) and an “Eggs Your Way” breakfast sandwich ($16), that contained scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and avocado on a circular croissant. The breakfast sandwich was really delicious! I highly recommend La Panaderia.

Incredible fresh food, quickly served, and magnificent atmosphere. The owners and operators of this establishment have followed the formula of find what you do very well and stick with it and the world will beat a path to your door. Every scrap of everything we tried here was wonderfully delicious! We sampled the Nutella cruffin, duo cake, Key Lime mousse, tequila almond croissant, and a peienta, each one better than the last! The cappuccinos were well crafted and a good counterpoint to the sweet pastries. I would suggest order ahead, but if you have never dined here before, you might consider waiting in line so you can see and smell what they have to offer. Their very high rating is well-deserved. The downtown location is not far from the Riverwalk or The Alamo, and is certainly worth the walk!

Great spot for breakfast. You almost always have to wait in line, but it moves fast. They had heaters outside to keep us warm while we waited in line which was great because it was very cold out. They also hand out the menus outside so that you are ready to order by the time you get in. You place your order at the counter, take your number to your table, and they will bring out your order. Their pastries are delicious and my ham and egg croissant sandwich was great. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I had breakfast at La Panaderia Cafe & Bakery 2 mornings in a row during the Fiesta week. Sooo happy it was a quick walk from our hotel (Canopy by Hilton). We ate the French Toast Clasico (the cinnamon raisin pecan roll is to die for) topped with lots of fresh berries, the Avocado Toast and the Sunny side Up Eggs on a spiral croissant. I couldn't believe how reasonably priced these big breakfast plates were! One morning, it was observed by someone working in the kitchen that my husband's breakfast wasn't served in the "15 minute closure" so we were given two free pastries and his breakfast arrived promptly. Everyone working in this cafe was friendly and helpful. The cafe was very clean and the pastries at the front counter smelled amazing! This would be the only restaurant we would have breakfast if we were to return to San Antonio.

We decided to stop here for lunch after touring The Alamo. It was noon on a Sunday. The line was long, but moved quickly. We bought a few empanadas to save for breakfast the next day. We then ordered lunch. You order and pay. They then give you a placard with a number and you can choose where you’d like to sit. It’s run efficiently and tables were very clean. We ordered the Mexican Cubans on a round croissant and the grilled chicken bowl salad. The sandwich was very good. The croissant was so buttery and flaky, melted in your mouth. Just delicious. The salad was huge and fresh. Decent amount of grilled chicken that was seasoned perfectly. The black beans were good and cucumber nice and crunchy. The pickled onion was perfect on top. I really liked the two dressing that was served in the side. Service was good. We’ll be back!

There was a long que outside even for a early Sunday breakfast. I considered if it was worth the wait but on the other hand… a que implies the food is good. The concept works well, you are actually queing to place your order and the food arrives very quickly after you sit down. The food is varied with a good selection of both hot breakfast and cakes.

This place was highly recommended to me so I placed an online order. I was in town for a conference and couldn’t make my pickup time but the owner was very responsive via email and even offered a few solutions.
I got my order the next morning and it was made fresh for me, no waiting.
I can’t even start at how delicious my food was. The tequila almond croissant was to die for (I also had a Nutella cruffin and a key lime mousse.) The prices were very reasonable for the size of each pastry (under $20 total and I only ate about a quarter of each one.)
The shop was clean, staff was friendly, the display cases were gorgeous. I wish they’d go national! In any case, totally worth the hype and then some.

Those croissants are amazing.
While this restaurant has a limited menu for breakfast, what they make, is amazing. By saying that I am not counting their pastries and desserts. We were there for the breakfast.
We each had a different breakfast sandwich, I had the croissant, eggs over easy, and ham. My wife got the scramble on croissant and some sort of fancy coffee thing. She said that it was delicious.
While the young lady at the register was friendly, she missed my order for coffee. When I mentioned that to the server, I noticed I also was not charged for my coffee.
The manager was told this by the server and brought me a delicious hot cup of coffee to make it right. Absolutely made my morning.
The food was good. It’s really hard to mess up eggs. But what made this so spectacular was the croissant. It was absolutely the best croissant I have ever eaten.
I wish we had both the time and appetite to have tried some of the pastries. They looked amazing.
My advice would be to go early, as we had to make two trips, because the line the first time was out the door and down the street. And that was around 10 AM on a Saturday.
Overall, it was a very pleasant very good breakfast. Great place to try.

We chose to stay at the Hyatt Regency River Walk and this gem of a morning bakery was to the left of the main entrance, down the block about a five-minute walk, with a long line that started at the door and wrapped around the block. We were trying to figure out a place to get breakfast food that would be a true representation of what San Antonio had to offer and from what the concierge staff at Hyatt said, this was the place.
When you walk in prepare to order from the menu's that are to your left. When you get up to the counter there won't be time for you to dawdle around given the line of hungry patrons behind you. Thankfully, if you buy with your nose as much as your eyes, there is a glass counter to your right showing the yummies for the day. Being from near Boston, I don't get concha that is homemade, and it was a must. Dippable in tea or coffee, it soaks up the morning beverage and has a thin sugar shell that dissolves in your mouth. It tastes a bit like a meringue puff, but the interior is a bit more of a crumb. They don't cost too much meaning you will be able to buy at least two and they don't seem to be too fattening for those who are calorie conscious.
There are an assortment of other staples, breakfast sandwiches (El Favorito with avocado) on homemade breads/croissants, bear claws, yogurt, juices and other more unique items like nutella cruffin. We chose to sit outside and thankfully the streets were none too busy so we didn't have much noise or air pollution while we ate. Highly recommended, you will enjoy a different taste for breakfast.

This was my first time to La Panaderia. There is also a 2nd location out by the 6 Flags parking lot. Food...this place has great breakfast sandwiches. You know, this is a good niche to be in. They bake their own breads and pastries and you get to try out some really good breakfast options. Sure, the French toast is good and so are the pastries...I mean, really good. But I tried that Mexican Cuban sandwich. So good. And it is a breakfast sandwich that is built for a big appetite. A breakfast sandwich, lemonade, and pastry cost....I think about $22. That is a lot to pay for breakfast, but I know the time it takes to make and the dough items they use in their offerings. As a local, I would definitely take out of town visitors here as a breakfast option. I would put them on par with my other breakfast favorites: Pancake Joe's, Guenther Haus, Comfort Cafe, and Southerleigh (for weekend brunch).

Went on recommendation from hotel staff on Sunday, Jan 15, We were surprised to see a line out the door and down the side walk but after we tried it, we understood why. We were going to order breakfast sandwiches until we saw the bakery choices! Tried a couple of different items as well as the the coffee and it was delicious. despite the crowd, the staff are very pleasant and answered any questions re items. We went back two more times to try more pastries! They have it set up nicely so you don't take table until you order which keeps the tables available for those who have their food. They keep tables and coffee area clean.

This was on our to do list while visiting the area. The pan dulce was delicious, but the coffee service was lack luster. We purchased coffee and other hot beverages, but my coffee was cold. I went to the counter and requested an exchange for “hot” fresh coffee and the young lady put my cup in the microwave. Once she handed me the hot microwaved cup, I explained to her that I was simply requesting hot/fresh coffee not a microwave experience. Thankfully, someone else stepped in and said would you like fresh coffee? We were in town several days and we never went back. Too bad the first impression is was usually sticks.

Went there for breakfast and another time for dinner and was wowed by the beautiful pastries, drinks, salads, and sandwiches. We tried & loved the El Favorito breakfast sandwich, nutella cruffin, chocolate croissant, tequila almond croissant, & the Avocado bowl. All of it was scrumptious and we even ordered extra pastries to take back to our hotel. The only complaint we had was not getting our sandwich order right. The same thing happened at a different location so I felt it was worth noting. However, it won't affect us returning. We are big fans!

This wonderful bakery and breakfast nook was across the street from our hotel and everyone told us we had to try it. They were so correct! We talked to the manager who told us they are up most of the night baking everything fresh. Dozens of choices, We found some truly unique pastries, and everything was fresh and tasty. We also had two of the best ham egg and cheese croissants we’ve ever had. If there are lines, don’t let that chase you away. They are extremely well organized, and things move very quickly. They’ve really got the system down. Don’t hesitate to check out their website to get a good snapshot of their offerings. You can also place your order online to make sure you get everything you want and pick it up at your convenience. And of course their beverage offerings are equally impressive. Just two blocks from the Riverwalk, they are worth the little side trip! La Panaderia is a true gem!

Phil here again, me and the Misses enjoyed a weekend in San Antonio. I recommend you make time to stop here for breakfast. We knew it was going to be good when we saw a line to get in the door. Worth the wait, just make sure you aren’t in a hurry. I had a bacon and egg croissant and the Misses had the Avocado toast.
I didn’t take a picture of the pastries but I recommend you spend some money while you’re there. They were fresh and a large variety. And yes they taste as good as they look. The sweet breads and the stuffed croissant are my favorite. Plan on a wait but know it’s worth it.
