In a town where you can throw a stone and hit 20 different Mexican restaurants, all claiming to be authentic, there's one original that lives up to the claim--Delicias Cafe. The restaurant sits in a plain shopping center, the store front could be confused for...a business office but, once you open the door the scenery is amazing. The décor is colorful and inviting, lots of colors, lots of art everywhere you look and the delicious smell coming from the kitchen is mesmerizing. Once we entered we were promptly greeted and sat in a beautifully decorated table and chairs. One look at the menu is enough to make your head spin but it all looks delicious and inviting. During our first visit we tried the combo plates, the flauta plate (rolled tacos), the shrimp cocktail and the chicharron prensado tacos. While we waited for our food we were treated to chips and salsa, the salsa had a good kick and good taste. We were also introduced to their corn dip, which is hard to describe but was truly amazing, I highly recommend you ask for it when you go, from what I understand it's not normally brought out unless you ask for it. We were also brought a cup of their tasty beef soup, it really hit the spot especially on a cold day and is included with your meal. Shortly after finishing our soup we got our plates and wow!, they were huge. I've had flautas at different places and it's always hit and miss but I'm happy to say these were perfect, they weren't dripping with grease like at other places. The tacos were superb and came with all the fixins. The combo plate was enormous and delicious, the gorditas were stuffed with meat and not greasy which is always a hazard when ordering them at any Mexican restaurant. The shrimp cocktail was delicious and filling as well. During our second visit we went straight for the breakfasts plates which were just as delicious, the eggs were cooked well and definitely as we ordered. There's not enough space in this review to do this place justice, you can definitely tell this family owned establishment takes pride in everything, you can absolutely taste the love in their cooking. For a Mexican restaurant it doesn't get more authentic than this place, from the tortilleria where each tortilla is rolled out by hand and rolling pin to the pictures of Mexican movie greats like Pedro Infante, it's authentic and original. What this restaurant lacks in curb appeal it more than makes up for in taste, value and plain old cool factor. The service earns high marks as well, our drinks never went empty and the servers definitely knew everything about each plate we ordered, they were also gracious enough to bring us samples of foods we wanted to try before ordering. Next time you're craving an amazing Mexican home cooked meal, do yourself a favor and get off the beaten path, skip past all the tourist traps in the city and go for something tasty and original--as the name implies, deliciousness is awaiting you at Delicias Café.More
