Went here with our good friends from California tonight for dinner. Started out with the Dead Horse amber ale. Then onto the excellent chicken noodle soup. The main course was the beer battered fish and chips. The ale was very tasty and smooth. The soup, what can I say, it's excellent. It's only served during the winter season and on Wednesdays only the rest of the year. If you've never had it, it's a must. I had the cup of soup and my wife had the bowl of it which is a meal in itself. The fish and chips are excellent. Three large portions of halibut flash fried in a beer batter coating. Served with fries. This is a large meal so come hungry. Excellent flavor. I've had it before but for some reason never written it it up with photos or anything....my bad I guess. :) Anyway, excellent meal once again at the Porcupine. If you've never been here, come early as it gets packed in a hurry. Just an FYI.

I have a new favorite dish at the Porcupine grill. Just had their Ahi Tuna salad, one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The Ahi was top sushi grade, seared very lightly (just the way I like it), service on top of a delicious deep green salad, with a nice surprise of pickled ginger hidden under the tuna. Topped of by a mouth watering sesame seed dressing. I ate every morsel on the plate. The "regular" size was just fine for me. The larger size must be remarkable. The lunch was a little on the pricey side, my companion had the fish & chips (which he also enjoyed). With no appetizers, no dessert and no drinks (not even soft drinks), the total cost before tip was $50. However I am still going back for another Ahi Tuna salad at my first opportunity.

Now we’re dining in the times of Covid so we’re probably not dining on an even eating field.
We dined inside, service was prompt and friendly.
The food was...well.. lacking. I had a Ahi salad, the tuna was seared on 1 side, and I think it was #1 sushi grade maybe last Friday, but it was sear on 1 side on day 4, not so delicious or fresh.
The other meals at the table weren’t remarkable either. The Italian chicken club was average. Thin sliced, overcooked chicken. Seemingly a pre-prepared chicken product and with an average marinara dipping sauce.
The bratwurst platter was the third meal. spaetzel was bland, sausage was overcooked, under seasoned and lacked a bratwurst texture. The kraut and cabbage we’re fine but couldn’t save the meal.
The beer-cheese soup was a bright spot. It was smooth, hot and delicious.

unfortunately i received a large gift card for this restaurant (should have re-gifted it to someone else) but i hadn't eaten at porcupine for several years due to average food and thought i would give them another chance. the menu is exactly the same as when i ate here 15 years ago. the food is overpriced and awful. my garden burger wasn't cooked. my husband also chose to get a sandwiches each time we went back and they were tasteless and cold. we always chose to do take out as the covid rates were exploding in salt lake. porcupine has you come into the crowded restaurant and wait at the far end of the bar to pick up your food. where they have you wait is also by the entrance to the kitchen and bathrooms (high traffic area). if that wasn't enough, all 3 times we picked up takeout inside the restaurant, the hostess gave us attitude when we said 'no' if we wanted to leave a tip. where is the service when you walk into an establishment and pick up food to take home? people don't leave tips at other take out restaurants (mcdonalds, burger king etc) so why is a tip asked for and expected from porcupine? the restaurant is very crowded at dinner time (they survive off of their close proximity to big cottonwood canyon). they have a very small patio so if you are expecting to eat outside, you will probably be out of luck.

Five star (slightly embarrassed) server (Joey), four star cook, no star manager (who should take his song and dance routine elsewhere), and ambience that could rate stars except the tinny, raucous background music was not in the background.
I asked the hostess upon entering, and then again as the others were seating themselves, to have the noise (!) turned down. She spoke to someone. Nothing.
After being seated for a minute, audibility strained, I got up and asked two servers to have the noise turned down. Sat down. Nothing. Came time to order and the three of us all asked our server to have the noise turned down. Nothing other than the manager came out, introduced himself, asked what he could do for us (he didn't know?), and you'll never guess what we asked.
The manager's disingenuous response insulted my intelligence to the point where, as he spoke, I had to look away. We'd made a mistake and I wanted to leave immediately, but another person in our party didn't want the trouble of finding someplace else, so we stayed, leaning toward one another, speaking loudly as we waited for take-out orders (that was our compromise) to be brought to our table.
Many years ago I had a summer job employer tell me, "We don't sell gas, we sell service." Over 50 years, I've applied that statement/standard to any profession including restaurants...such as the Porcupine Pub & Grille. Consequently, you have my review, having been written after giving myself a day to cool off.

First of all, our server Joey did a fantastic job. It seemed like he had way too many tables, but he handled it like a champ and provided us with great service. The food was just okay. The wings and the Tequila Lime Chicken were definitely the highlights. The Caesar salads and Cajun Chicken Alfredo were completely forgettable. The Cheesecake was also just average. Prices were what we expected for the area. Plenty of parking.

The food, drink and service was great. I would highly recommend the chicken noodle soup and mahi spring rolls. The chicken noodle soup is cream based and served with a warm roll. The mahi spring rolls were perfectly cooked, well made and the wasabi sauce rounded it all out.

We ate here for both lunch (3/10) and dinner (3/11). For lunch it was not crowded at all with only two or three tables occupied upstairs Tables in the middle of the room were removed so diners were well spaced per COVID-19 protocols. We ordered drinks decided to split a smoked turkey sandwich. Both were brought without any noticeable delay. The sandwich had delicious gouda cheese, aDijon-cranberry spread with fresh tomatoes which were a good balance to the smoked turkey. It was enough for both of us. Our server was very helpful. The bill came to $19.76.
It was much more crowded when we stopped in for Dinner on Thursday about 7 p.m. We had to wait about fifteen minutes in the car until they texted me that a table was open. We sat upstairs again but all the tables there were occupied. The lighting was good there and the even crowded the noise level didn’t prohibit conversations. For dinner I had a salmon sandwich with fries with a NA Beer. Donna had the Portobello Jack sandwich and a glass of wine. Both sandwiches were very good. There are several Flat Screens there so diners were watching sports as they ate. Our bill for dinner was $48.16.

The Porcupine Grille is right at the base of the Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons (think SKIING). It's crazy busy but for a good reason. The food is amazing and the service was excellent. We were a party of six and we all ordered something different and everyone loved what they ordered.
As an added bonus at local artist, Abbie Matthews, had her photos on display throughout the restaurant...all the photos were of Utah locations and they were stunning.
I would highly recommend eating here just plan on waiting for a table.

I don't write negative reviews very often but this restaurant is over priced for the atmosphere and the quality of the food. Pub fare at most.! All they have going for them is the location at bottom of the Cottonwood Canyons!!!! Beware much better choices in the area.

I ordered filet mignon medium cooked just right and tasty with mashed potatoes and salad. My wife had the goat cheese on French bread and loved it! My brother and wife had the prime rib but ordered it well done for some reason. They said it was good but next time would order it medium. Also, great service from our server! A bunch of different beers on tap too. We say yes!

My son and I stopped in for a late lunch and were not disappointed. I read some of the negative reviews and really wonder what were the issues because we each had tasty food and our beers were very satisfying. Folks, this is Salt Lake City and prices at a place & location like this are not going to be like going to Micky D's.
We have a similar restaurant like this in our city and it's just as noisy because of how it's built inside. As soon as I walked and saw that it was a cavernous setting, I knew what to expect. The food, service and drinks make up for the noise, so sit back and enjoy your day. Life is too short to get all worked up about somebody not smiling or prices not being cheap. Check out the menu ahead of time (on the web). I for one will be back for another dish.

Was recommended, 4 beers and 2 sandwiches was 60 bucks with tip. Burger and French dip were ok, fries needed to be cooked longer. Server was attentive. Manager stopped by table to check on us. Atmosphere was charming.

We like the food here. but seems they are sorta full of themselves, charging 25.00 for a salad. prices are so steep and the atmosphere is extremely noisy, don't go here if you want a conversation. They do have upstairs seating which we don't prefer, and also a patio in the summer which is quiet and very nice. Nachos are probably the best in the city!

Late lunch before our flight, we were after the mountain views. We had the artichoke dip and chips and cheese along with a few cocktails for 5 people. The views were the best, but the food was blah. Based on our apps we wouldn't go back again. Tab $68
