We eat here about twice a year when we are in Frederick to enjoy the downtown and attend an event. Great variety of food choices--all great. Location is not in the middle of downtown crowds so it is easy to get in even when there are activities going on. Staff is always friendly and patient.

Our Sunday dinner at Black Hog was a very good experience. We were seated quickly and our server introduced herself promptly and she took our drink orders.
Our meals were pit ham sandwich and beef brisket sandwich. We also had the potato salad and greens as sides. Dessert was a caramel cheesecake. There is also a good selection of draft beers. I had an Old Bust Head Vixen Irish Red Ale....really good but a bit expensive at $7.00. Service was excellent!
The restaurant has plenty of available seating and a small bar area with three big screen televisions. There are additional televisions along the wall. You can watch staff as they work in the open kitchen. Staff all takes turns delivering food to the table once it is ready. All in all a very good dinner experience.

I'm so glad I discovered this wonderful BBQ restaurant in downtown Frederick. Black Hog BBQ offers both indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of space for parking. The menu offers a great mix of delicious smoked BBQ meats and sides dishes, there is an extensive beer list and the mixed drinks looked incredible! I ordered the Texas beef brisket smoked meat sandwich with holiday sweet potatoes. Wow! The meat was juicy and tender and the sweet potatoes definitely reminded me of the candied yams I have with family over the holidays. The staff is also quite friendly and willing to explain the array of smoked meats on the menu.
I would definitely recommend Black Hog BBQ to anyone who enjoys good food. I can't wait to go back!

This was my fifth time, visited this restaurant since it started business in my town. I asked a waiter for a lean cut, beef brisket sandwich. The waiter delivered a tray to my table, and then I shocked because the beef brisket was full of fat. The waiter took it back.
I received food, but still, have fat again. Then, the waiter took it back. On the third time, the meat was reduced as much as 50% compared with the original amount. The fat was there then I had to trim to remove the fat by myself. The meat was already cold, dried. They charged me $12.85 plus sales tax and tip. The Black Hog restaurant was enormously expensive. Their food was no comparison with the Mission BBQ restaurant.
I called the manager on duty, Tim, by phone after returned home from a business trip. I explained to him about an incident yesterday at noon. He mentioned to me, what can I do for you without offering me a solution. Now, I am no longer attend this restaurant. I am always happy with Mission BBQ at Ellicott, MD.

We stopped at the Black Hog because it was the only restaurant we could find that was open for sit down dining. The sign on the door said we needed to wear a mask and there was 50% seating capacity during COVID.
We were taken outside to one of two tables that had diners. The menu was not reusable and the condiments were on the table when we were seated.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw. It came on a metal tray with two pickles and disposable utensils as well as a small cup of barbecue sauce. There was a lot of meat on the sandwich and a huge portion of cole slaw. I didn’t particularly care for the taste of the sauce but the meat was good.
A roll of brown paper towels were on the table for us to use but with the wind blowing, it was hard to keep the towels from unrolling.

Ordered take out from the Urbana, MD location - Dry ribs and beef brisket and 2 sides each. The ribs are consistently good. The brisket very good and very moist. The vinegar-based barbeque sauce was delicious. The beans and cole slaw were delicious and had enough left over for 2nd meal, along with the brisket. The corn bread was also good.

Went on a recent Sunday around 5:30 (they were open until 8). The first thing our waitress tells us is they’re out of brisket and hamburgers. Brisket is 2 of their 6 smoked meats, it’s on 2 of their 3 specialty sandwiches. So you could get ribs, bbq chicken, soup or chili, or one of the other 4 smoked meats. Extensive beer menu - so how could they be out of Coors Light? Not very busy, but the waitress didn’t come back to see if we wanted refills on drinks. And to top it all off, there was no toilet paper in the ladies’ room. A woman coming out of the restroom told me this and said she’d let someone at the bar know. No one ever came to restock so I had to use the men’s room. Won’t go back. Not after paying $42 for 2 sandwiches, a beer and an iced tea.

Really average BBQ.
Don't know if recipes have changed or if they've just gone down hill but the only thing I liked was the potato salad. Arkansas brisket was grisly, beans were sour, coleslaw flavorless, sausage undercooked, chicken way too salty.
I think the cocktails must be made by alcoholics because honestly, they just taste like cheap booze.
There are better places to go for BBQ... Mission BBQ is consistently better than this.

This place was an absolute joy to dine at. The food was great and service outstanding. I had the Texas brisket, dry rub ribs, mac and cheese, collard greens, and 1/4 chicken. The chicken was hands down one of the best bbq style chicken dishes I have had in a LONG time. I might just drive back down there thinking about how great it was typing this up. You have to try the restaurant if you are ever around the area as the bbq was fantastic.

Fantastic BBQ in the heart of Frederick MD. I have been to this place a few times and it does not disappoint.
I did try something for the first time, however, and I am not sure I will be choosing anything else from the menu going forward. Arkansas Brisket ... Amazing! It tasted like chunks of burnt ends lathered in a sweet BBQ sauce. Wow! My wife and I placed one order to share (as we were not sure what to expect) and we ended us ordering another. Yes ... it was that good.
I don't go to Frederick often, but when I do this place is at the top of the list.

Stopped in after a sporting event at local high school. Quaint little restaurant. It wasn't too crowded, so we were seated immediately. Server was very polite and responsive. I ordered the brisket with baked beans and fries as my sides. Portions were very large, I was quite pleased with the amount of food that came with the platter. The brisket was moist and tender with a very nice smoke ring. Others in our party ordered dry rub wings and a Mofo sandwich. We were all more than happy with our meals.

We kind of stumbled across this gem. Other than being among some really noisy tables, I would say that we totally enjoyed our dinner! Service was quick and food was delicious! We will most definitely return. Great pork bbq salad for me and my husband had a brisket sandwich. They do not skimp--nice size portions. We were happily pleased with this little discovery!

Very disappointing. Our first time and we purchased a sample of brisket, ribs, and chicken with a side of pork. The ribs looked like they had sat out for a few days and were so dry and tough you could not get them off the bone. The pork was ok and the brisket had no flavor. The greens were good, the mac and cheese was disgusting. The service was good.

Visited during a rainy late Saturday afternoon (2:15 p.m.), and there were only about 10 patrons. Menu is extensive for a BBQ joint, and the food was outstanding. Problem was the service - slow, especially in light of the limited crowd. Free parking a plus!

We ate at the one in Worman's Mill near Wegmans. I did the variety with chicken, brisket and pork. My wife had pork and the ends. Both were excellent. Chris the manager was outstanding. We enjoyed all the go withs. Great beer variety.
