Excellent food! I had the fried green tomatoes which were the best I have had in a very long time!! The portion was generous, the aioli and the pimento cheese really made the dish! The she-crab soup was outstanding - very rich and full of...crab. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the food and timed the orders perfectly. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice.More

Julep's is close to where we were staying at the Richmond Marriott. We made an early reservation as we wanted to avoid the crowd. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. Mrs. had fish, while I had the porkchop. Both were excellently prepared and presented....Both tasted very good. We were pleased with the main meal. Both had pecan pie, which was not as good as we had hoped for. If we are in the neighborhood again, we will definitely stop by Julep's.More

Julep's New Southern Cuisine is in downtown Richmond. I was staying at the nearby Richmond Downtown Hilton and it was only a block or so away. The restaurant describes itself as serving new southern cuisine, and that seems pretty accurate. Much of the menu seemed...to be updated versions of southern favorites like shrimp and grits, fired green tomatoes, or Chesapeake crab cakes. The food was prepared exceedingly well. I had the country ham ravioli and fish, both of which were delicious. They have wine by the glass, but I would have appreciated a few more choices. They have many more choices if you want to order by the bottle. The service was generally fine, but a little slow at times. The desserts look wonderful (although I was very full). They also have a very extensive list of single malt bourbons, Irish whiskey, and single malt scotches. This is a very nice restaurant and a good choice if you are looking for southern style food served in an upscale way.More

We had dinner there in January 2023. Everything was fine, but not really great. Service was fine, food was fine, price was okay; we probably would not go back. We much prefered LeMaire or LaGrappa.

Awesome dinner at Julep’s. I had a perfect Dry Martini to start out with. Then the scallops + a glas of Pinot grigio for starter and the crab cake + a glass of Riesling. These specific wines will normally not be on my to-drink-list, but...the food pairing was perfect. For desert I had a pecan pie and a bourbon portvine (never heard of that before!) I am so happy I went there♥️More

You do have to like spicy food to eat many of the starters, but the quality of the food is stupendous, and such interesting combinations. Also, the sorbet was the best I've ever had. I forgot to ask if it was made in-house.

We went there for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant is just lovely, white tablecloths, cozy atmosphere, extensive wine list and the food is all made in house and is very fresh. Our meal was yummy and the pecan pie for desert was to die for....Our waiter Tony, a true professional, recognized that we weren’t in a rush so we had a nice leisurely meal. The service was impeccable. The whole experience was memorable. I would highly recommend going there for a top notch meal.More

The food was excellent in flavor & presentation. The portions were not that large for the price, but it was delicious. Everyone in the party loved their food.

Once again a weekend trip to Richmond has set the bar even higher for me to eat out. Julep's New Southern Cuisine is one of a dozen or so well-kept secret eating establishments in Richmond that are well worth finding. Because they had only been...open four days the menu was limited and they were out of a few of the appetizers and one of the entrees, but everything we received was world class in taste and presentation and our waiter Tony could not have been friendlier, more knowledgeable or better at accommodating our raucous group (mostly me). Although I had my heart set on trying the Pan Seared Scallops ($15) with Cauliflower Purèe, Sweet Corn Succotash, Bacon and Strawberry Balsamic and the Ritz-Encrusted Fried Oysters ($13) with Pickled Vegetable Salad and Red Pepper Citrus Aioli we were not disappointed by two servings of the Edwards VA Country Ham Ravioli ($13) with Crisped Spinach, Garlic Confit, Parmesan, and Brown Butter. It was divine and we all wanted more! Three of our party ordered the Jumbo Lump Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake ($33) with Sweet Pepper Slaw, White Cheddar Grit Cake and Smoky Cajun Remoulade, which we all agreed was the best or nearly the best crab cake we had ever tried, mainly due to having zero filler and a perfect sear, which I now prefer to oven roasted crab cakes. After some discussion we all agreed that the grit cake was very good as well. I ordered the Julep’s Signature Shrimp and Grits ($28) with Colossal Gulf Shrimp, Byrd’s Mill White Cheddar Grits, Andouille Sausage and Spicy Shrimp Broth, which I thought was the best I have tried. The shrimp were so huge I was only able to eat three of the six provided. We finished off with their Signature Bananas Foster served Table Side for Two ($14), which is bananas sautéed in Butter, Brown Sugar, & Spiced Rum with Brown Butter Shortbread & Vanilla Ice Cream. There was a small disagreement about shooting video of the service, but after I agreed not to photograph the waiter's face I was able to record the presentation. This is a must try dessert for anyone patronizing the restaurant and we thought it was the perfect amount for four people to share. Our beverages were: Smuttynose Brewing Company Old Brown Dog ABV - 6.5% | IBU - 30 ($5) Dogfish Head Indian Brown ABV: 7.2 IBU: 50 ($5) Stephen Vincent Chardonnay, Sonoma County, California ’16 ($9.75) Newton Skyside Chardonnay, Sonoma County, California ‘18 ($12.75) Bombay Sapphire martini ($11) Tito's Handmade Vodka Dirty Martini ($11) Bénédictine DOM ($9) CHAMPAGNE JULEP ($14) Laird’s Old Apple Brandy, Mint Simple Syrup, Chateau Ste Michelle Sparkling Brut, Crushed Ice, & Fresh Seasonal Fruit The total for four people was $301.54 which we split four ways.More

Was very excited to try this place based in reviews- and I was marginally impressed. 2 steaks, shrimp and grits, fish and a crabcake. Those were the choices. We had appetizers and entrées, and while none of them were BAD.....they weren't actually GOOD either. All...in all, we weren't disappointed we tried it out, but I don't feel the need to ever go back. Especially at $33 for A bland crabcake. *side note- service was excellent. Only the food was subpar.More

We were warmly greeted by James when we walked in. He took care of us the entire time. Tables were well spaced and we felt very safe (this was our first time dining inside any establishment since early March). The pace was perfect, and the...cocktails and food were amazing. We started with the pan seared scallops - perfectly prepared and so delicious. We than ordered the petit filet and the dry aged NY strip - medium rare perfection for both. Finally, we finished off with the bananas foster and port flight. Exceptional experience all around.More

So glad I was given a gift certificate for this place. Lovely decor and ambiance. Greeter was off-putting with a big cold sore. Bartender was aloof and not prepared...lacked finesse. However, the server was amazing, informative, and helpful...true professional. Every bote was delicious. From starter to...dessert we were so impressed. I'll go again.More
