We visited for the 2nd time in a month for my birthday and thus reinforced my view that le Vivier gets better every year (we have been going regularly since it first opened around 15 years ago).
Its Michelin star is clearly more than merited for the amazingly good (and still good value) food, the brilliant service, the charming and enthusiastic staff, the truly excellent wine list and the fantastic setting looking over the Sorgue River.
Don't be put off by the brutalist concrete 1980s building in which it is sited. Once you are inside or outside the restaurant itself it is beautifully furnished and a great experience.
They have changed the menu format recently: you can still get the amazingly good value set 3 course menu du marche on weekday lunchtimes. Probably the best value fine dining in the whole of Provence.
We opted for their standard 3 course menu with 2 choices for each course and plenty of fabulous additional amuse vouches, etc. You can also go for the Menu Gourmand which is a tasting menu in 6 courses. The matched wines are excellent value and the young lady Sommeliere is brilliant. There is also an 8 course Menu d'Emotion also with matched wines available.
We all went for a brilliant starter of very lightly curried torteau (crab) which was beautiful and delicious. I then had a very light ris de veau with aubergine, miso & shiitake. My wife and daughter had a delightful St Pierre with artichokes & citronella. After I had their fantastic cheeseboard as an extra, we then had brilliant raspberry (2 of us) and one chocolate dessert. Divine.
I picked a Vieux Telegraphe 2017 white to go with the meal which was correctly decanted by the Sommeliere and we were persuaded to first have their cocktail of the day which was one of the best we have ever had. A new addition before the dessert was a brilliant infusion de garrigue. Lovely.
Patrick the owner was brilliant and lovely as always.
This is our favourite restaurant in the world, and for very good reason. The whole experience was (as always) both magical and efficient - difficult to achieve.
If you haven't tried it, you really should, and if you have been before, you really should go again and soon, and regularly.
Very highly recommended

Our first experience at Le Vivier was a lunch during the week, and a year later we took a nice dinner on the weekend. Both experiences were fantastic. We have already reserved for May of 2020.
The Le Vivier is an experience as far as we are concerned, and is the epitimy of the dining experience. The building where the restaraunt is located is directly on the river flowing thru L'Isle, and is a new modern building. The dining room sports a lot of large glass windows, and the decoration is very modern. the inside is quite large and you should not be bothered by other guests sitting close to you, and weather permitting there is also dining on the terrace overlooking the cool river.
The atmosphere is warm, despite the modern decor in the dining room, and is so because of the personalities of the service that one is rendered at his table. Yes the service is superbe, starting at the front door, and all thru dinner at all stages, and going on until you exit the building to go home. For us a particular highlight was the lady that takes care of the wine. She is extremely well informed, and is more than willing to help you select the right wines for your meal.
The various courses are totally amazing. If you don't have a super memory as to what you ordered, it may not be identifiable by looking at your plate. The kitchen is like an artistic academy, and what is brought to your table does not represent what you may have seen at the market or supermarket. It is a piece of art, that's edible. And how, wow! You only need to look at my pictures to get an example of the presentation. But you have to be there to partake in the taste - mmmmm!
Parking is next to impossible. There are maybe 3 or 4 spots in front of the building for all of the tennants. Plan on leaving your vehicle next door at the parking for the Super U, or walking a couple of blocks. Otherwise I can only be positive about this great place.

We have been going to Le Vivier several times a year since pretty much when it first opened around 15 years ago. In simple terms it is absolutely our favourite restaurant in Provence and just about anywhere else and we go to a lot of good restaurants! The wine list is also superb.
Patrick Fischnaller the charming host and Romain Gandolphe the ultra-talented chef never rest on their laurels. Quality, innovation, service, the ambiance, the wine list are always evolving and they deliver an experience which is well in excess of a single Michelin star. Bravo! Their Menu du Marché at lunchtime has to be one of the best value top quality meals on the planet and the tasting menus are awesome. Alexia the Directrice of Service is also brilliant and the whole front of house team are passionate about what they do, charming and really efficient and knowledgeable. Chapeau!

We are fortunate in Provence to have so many wonderful restaurants to choose from, but Le Vivier stands above all. Full of pleasant surprises and never disappoints! Le Vivier is also remarkable in being one of the few local restaurants able to provide imaginitive food for my vegetarian guests, though advance notice is required. Patrick is always very welcoming, and his staff are attentive. Whilst Le Vivier has a reputation for being expensive, a meal at this quality would cost double in London or Paris.

Quite possible the best lunch EVER. Just unbelievable. OK it can be expensive but the Menu de Marche is Euros 36 which isn’t bad for a Michelin star. And that is what we had. The amuse bouche was an extraordinary concoction of salad plants (no lettuce) diced with a tomato sorbet and something very cold and an infusion over it all; we had to have seconds, it was so good. And they let us. The first course was different but equally brilliant. Cod for the main course was fantastic and the pud was mainly yoghurt which I hate decorated with tiny leaves tasting slightly of liquorice and I finished it. Fantastic

The food is innovative and always full of surprises and clever taste combinations. It is not cheap but the best never is. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We have been regular visitors to this wonderful restaurant since it first opened nearly 20 years ago and always enjoy the carte, the wines and the brilliant service. It is our favourite restaurant anywhere in the world, presided over by the endlessly charming and ever-present joint owner and front of house man, Patrick Fischnaller.
This was a special wine dinner with 6 courses matched to the wines of the talented & passionate biodynamic winemaker Olivier Pithon from Calce in the Languedoc, in the Cotes Catalanes.
Fabulous and beautiful dishes, perfectly matched and beautifully served and great information from Sommeliere Laurie and her right hand man.
At 85 euros inclusive of wines this had to be one of the top restaurant bargains of the century.
Chapeau to the entire equipe. A totally wonderful experience in every way. If you haven't been, you should go!

We have been going to Le Vivier on and off for around 20 years - it’s an institution in the area and the fact they were almost full on a Wednesday lunchtime shows they must be doing something right Since the last time we had been there I think they had acquired a Michelin star, so expectations were high and generally it didn’t disappoint. We went for the €48 fixed menu du jour with an additional cheese course and the effort they had put into even a “basic” menu was obvious and showed a creative and imaginative blend of flavours. We were very impressed with the service; we liked the clear way the menu was set out, particularly the list of wines by the glass and we thought the herb infusion delivered with our cheese course was different and imaginative. A couple of negatives - the rather doughy cumin roll delivered with the amuse-bouches didn’t really work and the noisette and chocolate pudding was a bit sickly. Overall, though, an excellent experience

The wonderful meal we had at Le Vivier was memorable. The chef is creative but never loses sight of the diners experience. Everything tasted delicious as well looked beautiful and often surprised us with unique textures and depth of flavor. Two of the courses we had were among the best of our lives and we've been living half time in France and eating in all the wonderful restaurants for decades.

Hello, thank you for your excellent comment. It's a pleasure to read you and learning that you had a good experience at our gastronomic table.
Food and wine pairing is essential for us and makes the difference. The Michelin guide gave us a special mention for the wine actually, but the better is to know that our customers enjoy it.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon in our restaurant on the edge of the sorgue river for new culinary experiences.

We returned to Le Vivier after a covid-enforced hiatus in 2020 and 2021, and, happily, the meal, service, and setting was as wonderful as ever. The food was delicious, inventive and beautiful (many photos taken!), the service warm and impeccable. The lovely sommelier suggested the perfect red for a too-hot day, one that was elegant and complex but light enough to accompany the menu gourmand and the heat wave. The gorgeous patio has been upgraded and is a spectacular place to spend some hours on a Sunday afternoon. We are so happy to return to a beloved restaurant that has only gotten better. We look forward to our next visit.

At the end of our lunch on 16 July 2023, as we were paying the check, the waiter/manager told us that service was not included and asked if we would like to add anything to the bill. Slightly confused I asked twice if service was included (I specifically asked about service and not about gratuity), and twice he said no, that service was not included. I therefore added 50 euro to an already substantial bill (234 euro for 2, at lunch). However on further examination I am realizing that in fact a mandatory service fee is added by law to all restaurant and cafe bills in France. I don't mind tipping and always give gratuities of 20-25% when dining in the US, but I don't appreciate being lied to for a few extra euros just because I speak English and not French. I would've expected better of a Michelin-starred restaurant; the prices were certainly in line, but the service and hospitality were not.

Dear Andrew,
We thank you for choosing our gastronomic table for your lunch.
We are truly sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction concerning the tips (service, gratuity... what the term it is) you left when you paid.
We assure you that is an open and unfortunate misunderstanding.
It is common practice in France to leave tips or service when we are satisfied.
Inversely some other countries, you are free to give or not and to choose the amount (by convention we usually leave 10% of the addition but there is no obligation it could be nothing, less, more...).
We ensure you that a mandatory service fee is not added by law. Service included means taxes included but not tips included. It’s a plus to the salary received, a reward, that customers choose to give to staff because of their satisfaction.
Our restaurant is known for the high level of service we provide, we all work with rigor and passion, so tips /gratuities are often left.
Knowing that, when people pay by credit card, that is true we ask if people wish add something (tips/service/gratuity). It's indeed our practice but, under no circumstances would have the kind of practice you sigh.
We are really sorry to understand you believed we could have a such bad practice.
Hoping that you understand the situation better now and of course have the pleasure to see you anew at our starry table
Sincerely

As we hadn't been for a while we had the 6 course tasting menu with matching wines.
Tge food was absolutely brilliant, including their signature foie gras and smoked eel starter. The second entrée was the star of the show with a tatami of marinated sea bream, with marinated cucumber and a chilled cucumber broth. Absolutely to die for. Then the first plat a lovely grilled piece of Maigre (local fish) and the second a gorgeous "pluma" of acorn fed Spanish pork. Two wonderful desserts.
The wines were brilliantly chosen by Laurie the new Sommeliere who has joined them from the 3 star Villa Madie in Cassis. She is absolutely superb and charming.
All of the staff are incredibly efficient and knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, presided over by the lovely Patrick Fischnaller. Romain Gandolph the chef is seriously talented. Knocking on 2 star quality at lower one star prices in a beautiful setting alongside the river Sorgue. Beautifully furnished too. A must visit place. Chapeau!

Le Vivier lives up to expectations with one Michelin toque. It is delightfully located next to a canal with terrific ambience and a wide ranging menu and wine list. The little additions as always make such an impact and the bread basket was refilled several times which enabled us to soak up any sauce left.
The staff were excellent and the Maître de a stand out.
Bravo.

First off the positives, beautiful terrace overlooking the sorgue, very friendly and professional staff, dishes were visually stunning.
My fiancé and I came here for the tasting menu. The portion sizes were bigger than expected, but also made it harder to get through all 6 courses.
The food - baffling. While I don’t consider myself a critic or an expert in fine dining, I’ve eaten at several Michelin restaurants in the past and know a good plate of food when it’s in front of me. This wasn’t it. The flavor combos were seemingly random (crab + matcha ice cream? Whipped cream with cilantro? Foie gras with ginger snaps?), a lot of it clashed. It was hard to determine the main component of each dish, and one dish - the swordfish with dashi was just plain bad (bland swordfish, aggressive dashi broth). I really wanted to love this restaurant, but I left feeling confused, 90 euros poorer, and a bit sad.
Overall, big letdown.

Madam,
we’re really confused that we didn’t meet your expectations. We welcome your constructive remarks and thank you for your sincerity.
It is rare, but we may not correspond to the clientele.
On the size of the portions, it is true that no one has ever gone hungry from our table but from there to have trouble finishing the meal...
Our cuisine is modern, graphic (thank you for your compliment on this), inventive... A creative cuisine.
Our Chef, Romain, tries indeed to surprise by atypical but generally appreciated associations.
Be sure it is also a failure for us not to have taken you with us on the gastronomic adventure that we proposed. We are truly sorry.
Sincerely
