We’re so glad we didn’t pass on Gris-Gris when reserved tables were booked up and we were offered a spot on the upstairs balcony this cool winter evening. The view from our corner table over this charming neighborhood was New Orleans at its best. Heaters kept us cozy. Inside diners seemed to be enjoying the lively atmosphere, but I think the balcony offered a quieter opportunity for conversation. Our server was excellent in every way - friendly, knowledgeable, & attentive. They have a menu of creative cocktails & a nice wine selection. All the food was delicious - gumbo, wedge salad, & the pork chop.

My wife and I brought a friend with us to Gris Gris. We all had heard good things about this place and we were not disappointed. The service was on point our waitress was able to answer any questions we had about the food and was attentive but not overwhelming. My wife and friend had the Chicken and dumplings and a shrimp appetizer they both loved the dish the shrimp dish was excellent I had the whole Red fish which was delicious. With a couple of cocktail's and a bottle of wine with dinner the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend going here.

Great food! May husband ordered fried oyster with a lightly sweet sauce and gambo. I ordered Ceasar salad and gambo. It was delicious! Staff is very friendly. Service took a little longer because tables and the real bar are upstairs. I can’t go there so we stayed at the counter on the ground floor. In fact, the chef told us and showed us a reserved area where he planned to install an elevator but never worked because laws in NOLA. Anyway, strongly recommend the restaurant.

Cannot remark on the food, as our confirmation of a table upstairs made weeks before thru emails and a text saying our tabke was ready, we were shunted off to 2mseats at the bar. When we asked for our promised table we were curtly told it would be a 40 minute wait. When you are at a business conference you have limited time you do not need 2 cab rides to be treated this way. We left. No need to spend money or time to be mistreated, especially when so many other places in NOLA that bend over backwards to treat you hospitably.

The food here is excellent, but this is definitely not friendly to anyone with a physical challenge. All the seating is high-top and the main dining room is on the second floor up some tricky stairs. Having said that we really enjoyed our meal and liked our server, although we were in and out in less than an hour, so this was not a relaxing meal. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had swordfish and shrimp. In both cases, the shrimp was the most delicious shrimp we had in NOLA

Rainy night in warm setting, sat at chefs table talking to chef/ owner and watching staff prepare our meals. Chef is an artist at plating. My Bibb and fried oyster salad was one of the most delicious dishes I’ve had in New Orleans which is not to say that my shrimp and grits and my husbands double thick pork chop were not superb. Experience was fun and what we needed to take the chill off such a rainy night.

Staying in NOLA for 5 days...it’s the best restaurant we have dined at so far. I suspect being out of French Quarter they have to go above and beyond to get the traffic outside of locals...and they do - everything was delicious/ our favorite was the gizzards / my daughter loved her pork chop and my picky son enter the burger. On top of that we got to sit on the balcony with the heaters...perfect evening ~ and service was great!

We ate at all the usual places, but this was, by far, the very, very, very best place we had dinner. Think juicy pork chop with blueberry sauce and collars, stuffed crab. Fried green tomatoes that melt in your mouth. A great and affordable wine list. I ate here two nights in a row and would have gladly given up a couple of other meals for more here. A high-class neighborhood joint. Do not leave the city without eating here. Note: Many stairs to dining room. If you have mobility issues, book a seat at the bar. You won't be disappointed. You get to watch the outrageous kitchen staff and the chef cook and plate the food. The chef oversees all plating, which I thought was impressive. I will live forever with the memory of deviled eggs with cracklings. Note 2: Gluten free-friendly.

We had one night in New Orleans. Doing my research before, we settled on Gris Gris for our one dinner. We could not have picked a better restaurant. The minute I saw the place I was thrilled. We had a reservation to sit on the outdoor balcony and it was perfect. Our waitress, Hannah, was amazing. She was so sweet and so helpful and so knowledgable. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We had a bunch of appetizers to start: the caesar salad was one of the best any of us have ever had. My husband LOVED the oyster BLT. We had the chicken gizzards - first we ever tried them - and they were absolutely delectable. And the Flambeaux shrimp were to die for. We had the filet mignon, the chicken and dumplings and my husband had the red fish - served whole in the most amazing presentation we have ever seen fish served in. Everything was absolutely delicious. The open air kitchen area was entertaining and amazing to see. Hannah recommended the bread pudding for dessert and I cannot explain how yummy it was. We all absolutely loved Gris Gris and hope to go back one day.

Our group of 5 really loved this small gem of a restaurant! They had the best mixed drinks in NOLA not from slush mixes but from craft cocktails. The food was great too! I had the Gumbo and my companions got salads with shrimp or grilled chicken. Fantastic, friendly service.

We had a nice lunch sitting on upper veranda after a morning of walking through Garden District. Server suggested we try the oysters so I had fried oysters Rockefeller with an egg and spinach and husband had fried oyster salad. Both prepared very well (we both discovered we love fresh raw oysters but not big fans of fried). The service was very good and upstairs veranda was great.

There’s just no reason to bother going to this place. The staff was rude, the service was slow, and ultimately, 3 of the 4 of us left (after 2 hours) without eating dinner. We were going to be a few minutes late for our reservation, so we called and they (somewhat rudely) told us we had 15 minutes and then they would give our table away. That seemed reasonable for a busy restaurant. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), we arrived only 10 minutes late, just to be told that our table wouldn’t be ready for at least another 20 minutes. Seriously? Why give us a hard time if the table wasn’t going to be ready for more than 30 minutes after our reservation time? We were seated at a lovely table with a nice view outside on their balcony…. for a whole 30-45 seconds. Then we were abruptly told to get up because they had seated us at the wrong table. Finally, after over 90 minutes, our 4 dinners came out. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 entrees were ice cold. Rather than simply heat the dinners up, they claimed they had to re-cook the meals from scratch. After waiting another 30 minutes, we decided it was time to leave. Lest you think this was just happening to us, on our way out, a nice couple sitting at the bar said they were waiting over 90 minutes and still hadn’t gotten any food. Quick food review: My wife had a caesar salad that was so over garlicky that it kept her up that night. I had the Oyster BLT. It was okay, but the oysters were a little soggy and there was no L or T. My entree, the pork chop, was the warm one. It was smothered in some kind of sauce. It was fine, but a little hard to eat while the other three people at the table made death stares at me because they had no food in front of them. Don’t worry, I persevered. It’s hard to believe that a New Orleans restaurant couldn’t get 4 warm meals to a table in 2 hours. There have to be hundreds of places in New Orleans better than this one. Please go to ALL of them before you go here.

We were very underwhelmed by the food after hearing that it is a top restaurant in NOLA. The chicken and dumplings was uninspired and the duck portion was appallingly small.Bar seems to have some issues with the freshness of the wine as we had to send it back on two seperate occasions. The chesseburger also underwhelmed those that ordered it.

We expected much better. We ordered a salad, an appetizer, a main course and split all 3 as we always do. Service was a little too fast for our liking. We didn’t think we’d need to ask to have each course served individually. The fried oyster salad was the best course and very good. The shrimp and fried green tomatoes seemed like the tomatoes were made in advance and not fully heated. They were just barely warm and too firm. The 5 shrimp - we each got one that tasted off but the other 3 were fine. The half chicken was dried out. The rice was mushy and minimally warm at best. The carrots were very good. We won’t be back. We decided to try new to us, highly rated places, instead of our favorite places that haven’t failed us. This is why it’s hard to try new places even when they get good ratings. So disappointing. I feel like I’m being generous with a 3 dot average rating. It just wasn’t very good.

I'm not going to say this was the best meal I have ever had in New Orleans, but it certainly was the best on a trip that included Galatoire's and Cochon. The oysters were so fresh, they must have been shucking them in the back. The gumbo was so complex every bite was different. The shrimp and grits were cooked to perfection. It is a small restaurant and reservations fill quickly so book early. I recommend sitting at the bar where the chef/owner was bringing out the food.
