Thanks for the great review. Have a wonderful day!
My wife and I made a point of having lunch at Monty's Blue Plate Diner during our visit to Madison, Wisconsin, because it is advertised as "a 1950s style diner serving comfort food in a renovated gas station." As children of the 1950s, when old-fashioned...railroad diners were the fast-food restaurants of the day, we couldn't resist the opportunity to relive our childhood. Located at 2089 Atwood Avenue in Madison's Schenk-Atwood neighborhood, Monty's was a convenient stop going to and from the Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Complete with booths and stools at the counter, outdoor seating, a large parking lot, even an old Sunoco gas pump, it is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and serves breakfast all day, every day. Breakfast offerings include corned beef hash with corned beef, onions, potatoes, two scrambled eggs and a biscuit, Denver omelet with ham, cheddar cheese, onions and peppers, Eggs Mornay with poached eggs, smoked ham and Mornay sauce on an English muffin and meatloaf hash with meatloaf, potatoes, onions, red peppers, spinach, jack cheese, two scrambled eggs and a biscuit. However, we were in a mood for lunch. Start with bowls of creamy tomato soup. My wife chose a Reuben sandwich with corned beef, sauerkraut, grilled onion and Swiss cheese on rye bread with 1,000 Island dressing and coleslaw. I couldn't resist a char-broiled hamburger with lettuce, tomato and grilled onion with fries and Monty's Cristo with sourdough bread dipped in spiced French toast batter with smoked ham, Swiss cheese, local preserves and sprinkled with powdered sugar. No matter what you choose, you aren't going away hungry or disappointed.More

My boyfriend, his friend and I are breakfast here. I was sick for the rest of the day. I will not return. No thank you.More
Jadenpanther- I'm so sorry you didn't feel well after your Monty's experience. We take any instance of possible food born illness extremely seriously and I am hopeful you would be able to share some more information. Please email me at eheitzinger@foodfightinc.com and tell me the...More
We've lived in Madison for 20 years and have been here several times. Granted, it is has been quite a while due to COVID. Food was fine, and I get, things are different now. But two items of note that will prevent me from going...back here. 1) It was COLD in the restaurant. I get it, staff is hotter than customers. But this made my husband cold, a complaint I've never heard from him. We had on light coats, flannel shirts, and long pants. I had to put my hat on. The AC was blasting the entire time we were there. It was sixty-four degrees out, it was warmer outside. So that is a lot of money being spent to turn the inside into a cooler. 2) But here is where money isn't being spent, cleaning. I went to the bathroom. And something on the ceiling caught my eye. The vent is so filthy it caught my eye. A big, grey dust pile hanging over the bathroom. The small trash can in the stall has rust all over it--not small spots of rust, the entire side rusty. And the walls clearly needed to be wiped down. There was means available to dry my hands. At least there was soap. I'm not looking for squeaky clean in a diner, but you can't spend $10 to not have a rusted out trash can. And I thought there may be some type of yearly inspection or standard that Food Fight Restaurants have to live up to. Apparently not. And if I'm seeing that in a customer area, it makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes.More
Hope- I'm so sorry you found our bathroom in the state you described. We are currently waiting on our contractor to set a date for a complete bathroom remodel. Unfortunately this has been a process of over a year to get this job priced out,...More
Old school diner with lots of atmosphere. But the food was equally good. Came for breakfast and had the vegan pancakes with walnuts and bananas. Delicious!
Food was ok but the booth we were seated at inside near the counter was seriously gross. From the very dirty and sticky menus…to the dead bugs, webs and dust on the nearby window sills and coverings… to the sticky booth benches….and let’s not get...me started on the condition of the bathrooms. The entire place needs a deep clean and was hard to overlook in order to just enjoy our meals. Service was lacking and so maybe that was part of it. However, on the flip side the shakes were good and were the only thing we actually fully enjoyed.More
This is our usual go to when visiting Madison. Had the turkey club in May and it was memorable. Had it today and it was memorable but not in a good way. "Oven roasted Turkey" was an inch thick gelatinous slab. It was disgusting! I...picked it off and ate a tomato on a roll. The avocado on it was so tiny I could barely taste it. We won't be returning.More
We stopped here on our way to the Dells. We had a brief wait for a table and then we're seated at a booth. The food was about average and the service wasn't great. At our table we tried the biscuits and gravy, fried chicken...sandwich, Mickey pancakes, and breakfast burrito. The kitchen was able to alter the breakfast burrito by adding bacon. The frustrating part was not getting our water refilled in our tiny cups. We had to ask twice for water and finally got it after we had finished our meals. One good thing about the menu is that it had a lot of options for vegan customers.More
We had our second visit and enjoyed it very much----especially the waitress Brynn---what a friendly and nice attitude.---------------the food was good--good variety---bunch of vegan choices for my wife-------------the only reason I gave a 4 star----was 2 things---the restaurant was very cold and someone ( not...Brynn ) goofed up and brought us our salads and then brought our hot entrees about 1 minute later----------so we eat them entrée first and then salad--but still a great visit----------price for 2 coffees / 2 side salads / 2 entrees and one vegan brownie was $40 plus taxMore
Ordered some food for Mother’s Day and a couple of items were missing/incorrect (very understandable on such a busy day!!) I called and staff was extremely helpful and accommodating and sent the corrected order promptly. Their team went above and beyond and did more than...I asked, despite working what I’m sure was already a hectic day. The food is always delicious (true comfort food) and they have some amazing vegan options! Have been coming to Monty’s for a while and will definitely continue to order from here.More
I thought this was going to be great-Midwest Diner-I mean what could go wrong. Unfortunately quite a bit. The ambience is great as is the building but the food was just weird. Like they were trying to do elevated diner food but just couldn’t quite...hit the mark. Had the Monte Cristo sandwich and coleslaw. The sand which was just a soggy mess and the coleslaw was vinegary and odd. Carrot cake for dessert-except the frosting wasn’t usual cream cheese but kind of a whipped cream-again just strange. Friends had similar experiences with the Denver Omlete and cheesecake. It seems to be popular and bustling but just missed the mark completely for us.More
We enjoy their hamburgers, always cooked well and tasty. This time we ordered the family fish fry - the batter was light and crispy but the fish was bland. The place is always busy, sometimes the food is inconsistent but overall the food is good...here.More
Great service. The food was very, very good, many vegan options 🌱. Finally a restaurant where you are not freezing! Not expensive at all.
This popular spot is located on the edge of a residential neighborhood two miles from the Capitol. I had the tasty $11.99 Monty's breakfast sandwich with fried egg, applewood-smoked bacon, spinach, tomatoes, and herbed goat cheese on sourdough bread. It came with skin-on American fries....They also have a separate vegan menu. Service was fast and friendly. I'll be back.More
Egg's were cooked right, order came correct, but it's not at all what I expected. When I think of corn beef hash I think of not only the taste but the crispy texture. My potatoes were cooked, but they could have become mashed potatoes if...I just push them with my fork. Once again I'm reminded why I don't eat at Food Fight Restaurant group usually: what you order is often a sad facsimile of the food its trying to represent. I say often because of those tiny things that are done right, like tasty biscuits, pies and coffee at the store. Are those tiny good things worth making this your stop? Nah. If you want authentic and tasty dive bar/diner tastiness, go to Brothers Three on Fair Oaks. You won't regret it.More
