I’m starting out with four stars, but if I tried it a couple more times, it might rate five. I’m working with limited info.
This is essentially a sandwich and coffee shop. It’s the other half of the Marlow business, called Marlow & Daughters, which is essentially a butcher and bread shop.
Based on the sign that says sandwich arrive around 11, sometimes 12, I assume the sandwiches are made at the other shop and walked the few hundred feet to the next shop. They don’t appear to be warmed or prepped after delivery, which was a bit of a bummer.
That being said, I had the Scuttlebutt, which consists of eggs, pickles, olives, capers, herbs, feta, and pimento mayo. I am not an olive fan, but could not taste them and didn’t see them. So either they weren’t there or I didn’t notice. The sandwich was quite good. Ingredients fresh, flavors were great. Bread was crunchy. I had debated the ham and cheese, but the fact it was a cold sandwich and not toasted on side made me go for the Scuttlebutt.
The staff was helpful and gave me their recommendations. The outdoor seating area is super nice with plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. Low key.

A simple unpretentious dining spot with absolutely delicious food. They make the ordinary very special. It is not worth a drive and really only for neighborhood dining as it is devoid of ambiance.

Whilst on holiday in NYC my wife Nic and I got married. On the wedding day we turned up to Marlow and Sons without a reservation (having had a tasty beer the night before we had been hugely impressed by the laid back ambience of Marlow and Sons). Although on our arrival the back room was clearly full, we were 'squeezed in' to a perfect table for two, next to the bar. We were impeccably welcomed by all of the staff, and told continuously 'you are making us feel extremely underdressed.' The food, beers and cocktails were delicious, and we were made feel extremely welcome and comfortable, even though we stuck out like two sore thumbs in our wedding gear! All of the staff's kind hospitality and the atmosphere of the place made our special occasion perfect. We cannot recommend Marlow and Sons enough. To top it all off they wouldn't let us pay for the bill!

This place needs to get over itself. A charming environment with lousy, aloof, misleading front staff. Do you need reservations or not? I think it depends on how you look. What a bummer of a wannabe hipster bar

We were waiting for a table at Diner next door, so we were advised to go to Marlow & Sons for drinks while waiting. Diner was at capacity.
Not a very big menu but they do things really well, and good wine options.

We had heard so many raves about this place that we were very surprised to find the food was not really very good at sticker-shock prices. A tempura battered vegetable starter was pretty tasteless and both the pork cutlet and bluefish entrees were tough (overcooked). Service was very friendly and the wine was delicious but alas, we won't be back.

Stopped in on spec after walking around Williamsburg and due to the promise of oysters and it worked out incredibly. Did not expect 6 good oysters for $17 and the beef tartare on toast was even better. Limited range of food and only 3 draught beers but they do everything very well.

Slightly alternative but not overly so. Service very good, as was food. Lib v that it is a non gratuity place so that is built in to the cost. Wouldn't the world be so much simpler if that was standard so we know the cost, don't need to guess what is fair to tip and we simply choose to go back or not.

loved the food, waitress was super attentive and gratuity free = such a nice break after the heavy burden of extreme tipping in the usa

Cozy little restaurant with great food and very good service. Like most things in Brooklyn, the external view of the restaurant gives you no real indication of the quality of the food and the friendliness of the place.
We had breakfast there and I would highly recommend it for their breakfasts. Generous portions and really well done - very tasty.

The food is good, but stay away from this place if you want to have a good time for a weekend brunch. The hostess was simply disrespectful from the very beginning. The kind that welcomes you as if you were bothering and throws you out in an even worse manner. We hadn’t even finished our coffees (nor had received the bill) and the hostess barked at us asking us to leave, because she wanted the table free. We had not been there for more than 45min and hadn’t finished our drinks. The hostess then asked our very nice server to “get rid of them as quickly as possible”. It’s a disgrace for a place that wants to rival amongst the top restaurant and brunches in Williamsburg. The food is good but it’s no excuse to treat any client like a piece of raw meat that you want to get rid of. This is a “no tipping”’policy restaurant and it’s clearly not doing the program any favors. They’re taking advantage of this great policy and label to lower their standards and allow such behaviors by their staff. Shameful.

We had a lovely breakfast (eggs and rye Bread) at Marlow and Sons. Unfortunately we got to sit in the back of room, which was a little to dark / quiet for us. But really good service and breakfast (they make really good coffee and cake)

Oh my the service attention was so amazing! Knowledge of wine, cocktails, beer, and locally sourced fresh food was exceptional. Cozy, but not crowded, informative, and perfect timing. Our local hosts told us about this place, and oh my what a find. Food was delicious creative but not pretentious. Brilliant.
