How do some restaurants sustain? year after year? decade after decade?
Not sure who else has the secret but Al Di La certainly does.
You'll wait for table unless you're a party of six or more. They have a pleasant cafe with some additional tables and a bar around the corner where you can get a drink while you wait.
We went around 8 on a Friday night and had a table within 30 minutes.
The food is subline. We had mussels en brodo, a kale ceasar salad, black squid ink pasta, a lamb ragu with tagliatelli and a side of braised greens.
It was too much food but every bite was perfection. Actually my wife thought the pastas were disrespected, our inside terminology for when too much sauce is applied. I thought ithey were just right over the al dente fresh pastas.
A nice wine list. Prices that arent too terrible and prompt, courteous knowledable wait staff.
Main dining rom is just tables. Cafe around the corner looks like a bistro with marble table tops and a small curved wooden bar. Totally charming corner spot on 5th AVenue in Park Slope.
Cant imagine what this place wouldn't be good for. A+

The bruschetta and the gnocchi are to die for here. This is a gem of its neighborhood, so I was told, and I must agree! The service was friendly and the restaurant is quaint although busy. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection and paired with a beautiful red...which I can’t remember at the moment. But definitely a must for anyone traveling to Brooklyn! I can’t believe I’ve never been. I will be back!

We came here after a cold evening of thrifting expecting we'd wait a bit since we had no reservations, but they seated us immediately even though the restaurant was packed. The service was friendly and prompt, and oh my lawd that lemonade was heavenly. We couldn't go wrong with a dish, but the very right ones were the polenta with ox chili, kale lemon anchovy salad, and the duck pasta that was cooked perfectly al dente that I actually enjoyed (whereas I often eat my pasta softer at home). Vibes were perfectly cozy too - cute decor, minimal, intentional with the perfect mismatched plates. Only thing I'd have liked were a place to hang my long coat.

Underwhelming. Saw this on a few lists of top places for lunch in the area. Figured we’d give it a try. We ordered the fungi polenta, and the American breakfast. The polenta was bland and just not that good. The American breakfast could be beaten by most NYC diners.
Another table ordered the pasta dishes, and those looked much better. If I come back, I will definitely be trying that.
Water was dripping from the ceiling and every window. We had to move to three different tables before finding a dry one. The staff didn’t think much of this, so it must happen often. Don’t come here on a rainy day.

We were seating outside and after 30 minutes no one had taken our order. We had to seek someone out. The food was good but not very hot and the portions were a little small. We would have ordered dessert but again we had to seek someone out. Frustrating experience.

My wife and I made a reservation for Al di là Trattoria based on a recommendation from a co worker. We couldn’t be happier with this choice. We started with the Seppia and Oxtail from the antipasti menu. This had an amazing flavor over polenta. I have had oxtail many times however never like this. We moved on to try the Spaghetti allla chitarra neri. This dish was also very good and cooked perfectly the way pasta is prepared in Italy. We then ordered Tagliata di Manzo, sliced hanger steak over a bed of arugula with a balsamic reduction. This was also reminiscent of how we had this same dish prepared in Rome. The steak was tender and paired nicely with the balsamic. I paired the meal with a few red wines. We also had a cream desert paired with espresso. The staff was very nice and helpful. The decor was also interesting and a talking point. I will come back again!

The pork saltimbocca was dry and resembled beef jerky. Children at the next table were up and down visiting around the restaurant constantly with no concern on their guardian’s part for the others having dinner. When clearing the next table, the busboy dropped food-laden place wear that landed on my shoe. He heard it fall, looked under my chair, saw it sitting on my shoe, decided to just leave it there and walked away without a word.

Authentic Italian cuisine menu with creative takes on rare items like tripe, rabbit, fresh fish and seafood prepared exquisitely.
The food is delicious, the decor tasteful and the staff are always looking for ways to maximize your experience.

So on a sunny pleasant afternoon I come to Park Slope for lunch. There appear to be few decent-looking restaurants open for lunch, but I come here and sit on the terrace. I need to scan the menu with my phone, and then order with my phone---and at the same time pay with my phone, including a presumed 20% tip---although of course I have as yet received no service of any kind. (So much for the fiction of a tip as recognition of a good job). I am served a glass of warm Prosecco. There follows a tagliatelle which has been heated in a microwave in a plastic container---and is served, brought to the table, in the same plastic container that it was microwaved in. I pry the lid off the container with difficulty, as I do with similar plastic containers from supermarkets. The sauce is watery and runny: This is much inferior to any meal I have had on a United Airlines flight.
Two questions: Am I on Candid Camera? And, would anyone return to this restaurant a second time who has not been diagnosed clinically as a masochist?

First visited in its first year, and it was excellent. Returned with a small group of friends to see if it's still doing well. The appetizers were generally good, the soup of the day, tomato, was exemplary the calamari salad was very good and I loved the Farro salad. However, heavily salted anchovies, and even salty capers, have no place on a plate of carpaccio, good raw beef is just too delicate a flavour.
Two of us ordered the risotto of the day, red wine and bone marrow, that was frankly bad. This should be a dish of carefully balanced flavours, but it was more of a sucker punch. The bone marrow was cut in uneven chunks, which were unpleasant to eat, it is normally served whole inside the bone sitting on top of the risotto, so you choose whether or not to eat it. The red wine flavour was overpowering, more like a marsala or fortified wine. By contrast the pork shoulder ragù served with paccheri pasta was dynamite, we all envied that dish.
The fritole dessert was shared, and was excellent.

I came there with my family each time I visited Brooklyn . It never disappoints you . The warm decor with old world magic rubs on you . This old fashioned eatery offers you a limited menu especially for vegetarians but , there is a blessing in disguise . The polenta with mash toon and kale is absolute delight with a glass of wine . A dish of zuchchni pasta was too delicious . The wines are good with a great service . The brunch for the weekend is memorable here . The prices are high but worth your money . This no frills joint is popular due to its good , fresh and wholesome food . Location on upscale neighborhood is unbeatable . Reservation are must - generally packed with crowds .

We had a great meal at Al Di La last weekend. Very interesting menu. The wild mushrooms with polenta were fantastic. Great salads, I had linguine with clams--very good. The bread was fantastic. Only negatives-my wife ordered the raviolis with the beets and the portion was small--only 4. They were delicious but you wanted more. For desert we recommend the pear cake with the bitter dark chocolate chunks. One of the best pieces of cake you will have. It was fantastic.

We stopped at Al Di La for breakfast--there are actually two parts to it. Very pleasant, nice pastries and good coffee.
